Target 's weak quarterly earnings underscored why it cut prices on thousands of household staples: It's struggling to win over bargain hunters. Elsewhere, Aldi dropped prices earlier this month on more than 250 items, including chicken, steak, granola bars and frozen blueberries. Target made its move on Monday, saying it has already reduced prices on about 1,500 items and plans to cut prices on thousands more this summer. Multiple major grocers and restaurants cutting prices or offering deals could offer relief at the checkout, at a time when consumer prices are still climbing more than 3% from last year. The company declined to share details of that split, but Chief Growth Officer Christina Hennington said Target's vendors know the company is committed to passing on savings to its customers to drive traffic.

Trump torpedoed it as “lunacy” and “a gift to Democrats.”Mr. Schumer sees his maneuver as a way to remind voters upset about chaos at the southern border that it is Republicans who are blocking a solution, even after they reached a deal with Democrats that could solve the problem. Analyst Ronald Epstein downgraded the electronics maker to underperform from neutral and slashed $15 off his price target to $150. In a large part of American political discourse, overt cynicism is the currency of sophistication. It is a sign of political savviness, even worldliness, to know that politicians are creatures of pure self-interest, with no solid beliefs, concerns or preoccupations. For years, the savviest position was the cynical one: Their vocal opposition notwithstanding, neither Republican lawmakers nor conservative judges would actually try to overturn Roe v. Wade. And public cynicism notwithstanding, they want to do this even if it costs them votes in the short term. The same was and remains true for Republicans and abortion.

One problem: Disney had weakened the Pixar brand by using its films to build the Disney+ streaming service. Starting in late 2020, when many multiplexes were still closed because of the coronavirus pandemic, Disney debuted three Pixar films in a row (“Soul,” “Turning Red” and “Luca”) online, bypassing theaters altogether. At the time — around December 2020 — Disney was pouring money into the streaming service in a wild and ultimately unsuccessful effort to attract up to 260 million subscribers worldwide. As part of the retrenchment at Pixar, “Elio,” a movie about an 11-year-old boy who is inadvertently beamed into space, was delayed. Disney pushed it to June 2025.

Fani Willis, the Fulton County district attorney who is prosecuting Trump, is projected to win her Democratic primary rematch with attorney and author Christian Wise Smith. And Judge Scott McAfee, who is overseeing the former president’s case, is projected to win his nonpartisan election for Fulton County Superior Court. That has left the Trump case effectively at a standstill. Wise Smith, Willis’ primary opponent, finished third in the 2020 Democratic primary for Fulton County district attorney. Kemp could wind up being a witness in the Trump case.

Lowe's topped Wall Street's quarterly earnings and revenue expectations on Tuesday, even as do-it-youself customers bought fewer pricey items. It marked the fifth quarter in a row that Lowe's posted a year-over-year sales decline. Roughly half of Home Depot's sales come from pros compared to about 20% to 25% at Lowe's. Lowe's is lapping a year-ago quarter when the company slashed its full-year outlook and posted a year-over-year sales decline. For each of the three quarters since then, Lowe's sales have also dropped from the year-ago periods.

One semiconductor supplier could win big from a strong outlook from chip giant Nvidia , according to Morgan Stanley. " TSMC is the sole supplier for NVDA AI GPU, so we view NVDA's July-quarter revenue guidance, due on May 22, as a key catalyst," wrote analyst Charlie Chan. "We would expect TSMC's share price to rise if NVDA's guidance were to beat expectations." Investors will closely monitor Nvidia's July revenue guidance, which the market regards as one of the most significant indicators of AI server demand. U.S.-listed shares of Taiwan Semiconductor have rallied 47% this year.
