CNN —Novak Djokovic told a group of drumming fans of the Great Britain team to “shut up” as they tried to drown out his post-match interview after Serbia’s Davis Cup quarterfinal win on Thursday. The 36-year-old Djokovic also won a record seventh title at the ATP Finals earlier this month, beating Italy’s Jannik Sinner in the final. Serbia will now play Italy in the semifinals of the Davis Cup on Saturday. 1 is bidding to cap off a superb season with a Davis Cup win. “That’s disrespect but again that’s something I have to be prepared for in a Davis Cup,” the 36-year-old Djokovic told reporters, speaking about the vocal fans.

CNN —The stage is set for another epic showdown between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open which starts on Monday. The pair have thrilled tennis fans this season with two special matches, first in the Wimbledon final and then most recently at the Cincinnati Open. The 20-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable season in 2023, winning six titles that include Wimbledon – his second grand slam – and two Masters 1000 events. “What Alcaraz has done in the last year is unbelievable,” seven-time grand slam champion John McEnroe told Eurosport. CNN —Novak Djokovic had a brief stint as a groundsman during his first-round match at Wimbledon on Monday, using his towel to dry the grass on Centre Court. When the match resumed, Djokovic triumphed 6-3 6-3 7-6 (7-4) against the Argentine to kick off his pursuit of a fifth straight Wimbledon title. “It was definitely frustrating, of course, for the crowd waiting for us to come out on the court,” said Djokovic. After five, 10 minutes, we were out and about.”Unperturbed by the delay, Djokovic breezed through his first-round encounter against Cachín in a playing time of two hours and 12 minutes. His bid to capture a third grand slam title this year will continue on Wednesday against Australia’s Jordan Thompson, who came from two sets down to defeat American Brandon Nakashima 2-6 2-6 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 6-3.

CNN —Carlos Alcaraz is set to reclaim the world No. 1 spot from Novak Djokovic after winning his first-ever grass-court title at Queen’s in London on Sunday. Playing at Queen’s for the first time and in only his third-ever grass-court tournament, Alcaraz lost just one set all week. Carlos Alcaraz defeated Alex de Minaur to win the title at Queen's. “Being the number one, the top seed in such a great event as Wimbledon, for me, it’s amazing,” Alcaraz said afterwards.
