"It's been pretty incredible," Tim Williams, director of public relations for BetUS told Business Insider. "This is the very first time we've seen any off-field prop bets challenge or even overtake the half-time show." Propositions, or prop bets unrelated to gameplay are largely prohibited in the US. At BetOnline, the site offers 89 wagers — a reference to Swift's "1989" album — solely around Swift and Travis Kelce. Nobody is getting rich off of these prop bets, however, according to Williams.

Photo: Sean Rayford/Getty ImagesCandidate debates have become a fixture of presidential campaigns, and they’re especially valuable in primaries. Voters get a chance to see how well candidates perform under pressure, and relative unknowns get rare exposure against the front-runners. The debates helped Barack Obama in 2008 against Hillary Clinton , and they helped Donald Trump in 2016, so it’s notable that this time Mr. Trump is threatening not to debate.

The first scene of his reelection announcement video released last month showed smoke rising over the US Capitol and rioters with Trump flags. The legal complications facing Trump and GarlandGiven the fraught situation, the Justice Department’s next moves will be hugely significant. Thursday’s Proud Boys convictions are among the most significant of hundreds of successful Justice Department prosecutions of people linked to the US Capitol riot. So while a prosecution of Trump and his closest political associates over January 6 could be tough, it may not be impossible. Meanwhile, laborers who rely on social-media platforms for visibility, reputation burnishing, and income have been left reeling — from journalists and academics to freelancers and adult performers. Last month, a plus-size creator told me how self-censorship becomes a risk-reduction strategy for marginalized creators. As the journalist Paul Gallant argued, queer content creators face a continuous struggle to avoid "the wrath that comes from violating ever-changing and poorly explained terms of service." Even coverage of the influence on social-media creators has been more tuned in to those with the biggest followings. But the real pain from this tug-of-war for the future of social media will be felt by those who have long faced the greatest hurdles: marginalized creators.
