Research dating back decades has found that emotional intelligence is the greatest predictor of success in the workplace. Having a high EQ can also help you manage stress and curb burnout, according to Kandi Wiens, director of the University of Pennsylvania's Master's in Medical Education program. For her new book, "Burnout Immunity," Wiens interviewed hundreds of people thriving in high-stress environments, including hospital employees and police chiefs who remained motivated and optimistic while working as first responders at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Wien suggests paying close attention to how you cope with stress to gauge your emotional intelligence at work. As Wiens explains in "Burnout Immunity," cultivating healthier responses to stress can prevent burnout, which stems from chronic, unmanaged stress.

At age 80, Byron Wien compiled “20 Life Lessons” from a long career as a Wall Street soothsayer. “If you work forever, you can live forever,’’ he explained. “I know there is an abundance of biological evidence against this theory, but I’m going with it anyway.”Mr. Wien (pronounced ween) didn’t outrun biology. But when he died on Oct. 25, at 90, he was still engrossed daily in reading the economic tea leaves for his most recent employer, the private equity firm Blackstone. He continued to call politicians, central bankers and financial titans around the world for intelligence to help shape his strategic reports for his firm.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Friday remembered Byron Wien, a famed investor known for his annual "Ten Surprises" list that was considered an essential read by many on Wall Street. "He was an optimist, always on the lookout for new ideas and the young people who believed in them." Cramer said he always pored over Wien's "Ten Surprises" list, which was published for 38 consecutive years. To Cramer, some of Wien's ideas may have been "outlandish," but he said they always made him think. In the late 1980s at a dinner of managers hosted by Wien, Cramer recalled pitching a story about personal computers becoming as powerful as mainframes, thanks to new chips made by Intel .

IFM increases stake in Flughafen Wien to 43%
  + stars: | 2023-02-10 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: 1 min
Feb 10 (Reuters) - IFM, through its subsidiary Airports Group Europe, acquired an additional 3.77% of Flughafen Wien (VIEV.VI), as part of its attempt to take over the Austrian airport operator, it said on Friday. This pushes IFM Global Infrastructure Fund's stake in Flughafen Wien to 43.44%. It is already the single largest shareholder of the Vienna-based firm. Flughafen Wien had reiterated last January its call not to accept IFM's offer of 34 euros per share, deeming the valuation too low and the potential delisting of the Vienna Stock Exchange contrary to its interests. The Wall Street veteran published his much anticipated annual surprises list Wednesday. Wien started the tradition in 1986 when he was the chief U.S. investment strategist at Morgan Stanley, and his list of surprises became a must-read on Wall Street. "Despite Fed tightening, the market reaches a bottom by mid-year and begins a recovery comparable to 2009," Wien said. Wien thinks that, while the Fed is successful in dampening inflation, it "over-stays" its time in restrictive territory. Meanwhile, Wien thinks that China will edge toward its growth objective of 5.5% and work aggressively to re-establish strong trade relationships with the West.
