The chyron in a Fox News broadcast covering the shooting at the University of North Carolina (UNC) has been altered to read “shooter described as ‘mostly white Asian male.’”The claim surfaced online after a faculty member was shot dead in a shooting on the UNC campus on Aug. 28. A suspect was arrested and the threat was cleared by late afternoon, Reuters reported, citing officials (here). These statistics reveal a simple fact about affirmative action in higher education: It mattered very little for the majority of American college students. But because affirmative action only opened a tiny window of access to America’s most elite institutions, the ruling will make little difference for most college students.
