☆ The Voting Machine Conspiracy Theorists Are Still at It

Nearly four years later, zealous supporters of former President Donald J. Trump who promoted the conspiracy theory that Dominion Voting Systems had rigged its machines to rob him of the 2020 election are still at it. Even though Dominion has aggressively defended itself in court, a network of pro-Trump activists has continued to push false claims against the company, often by seeking to use information gleaned from the very defamation lawsuits the firm has filed against them. The network includes wealthy business executives like Patrick Byrne, who once ran Overstock.com, and Mike Lindell, the founder of the bedding company MyPillow. Both have sought without credible evidence to put Dominion at the heart of a vast conspiracy to deny Mr. Trump a victory. It also includes a pro-Trump sheriff from southwest Michigan, a former election official from Colorado and Mr. Byrne’s own lawyer, who is facing charges of tampering with Dominion machines and who once worked alongside Mr. Trump’s legal team in claiming that the company was part of a plot to subvert the last election.

A Christian minister who works for a faith-based nonprofit, Mr. Ingebretson said he shared Republicans’ small-government views and agreed with the party’s calls for fiscal conservatism. But after Donald J. Trump became the face of the party, Mr. Ingebretson, who lives in Grand Rapids, Mich., drifted away from his political roots. In 2020, he voted for President Biden. The visits come amid a notable lull in Trump’s campaign activity in the weeks since he became the presumptive GOP presidential nominee. In December 2020, Jamie and Sarah McCauley stumbled into their strangest side hustle yet: Buying pallets of items people returned to Target, Walmart and Amazon. The process seemed simple: Interested parties visited a local warehouse and paid $550, on average, for a pallet of returns. Since then, Jamie, 33, and Sarah, 32, estimate they've spent about $7,150 on pallets from Amazon, Walmart and Target. They've made about $19,500 in profit by reselling the items in those boxes on eBay and Facebook Marketplace, they say. Even the lucrative Amazon pallet contained 19 pieces of inventory that still haven't sold, including some items too damaged to list at all.

But Ms. Weber, 51, has known since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade that she will vote to re-elect the Democratic governor this fall. She said she likes how Ms. Whitmer has fought to preserve access to abortion, including by waging court battles and backing a ballot initiative to codify in state law a woman’s right to end her pregnancy.
