London CNN —It opened just over a year ago, but a luxurious 24-key Italian property has already been named the best hotel in the world. Passalacqua, which overlooks Lake Como, beat off stiff competition to receive the top spot on the first-ever edition of the World’s 50 Best Hotels list, which was announced at an awards ceremony in the UK on Tuesday night. The highly-anticipated list honored 50 hotels from 35 destinations across the world. “After seeing the devastating impact of Covid-19 on the hospitality industry, it’s been especially fulfilling to see so many hoteliers from around the world gather in London to celebrate each other’s achievements under one roof for the first-ever awards ceremony of The World’s 50 Best Hotels,” Tim Brooke-Webb, managing director for the World’s 50 Best Hotels, said in a statement. FBI agents shot and killed an armed Utah man accused of threatening President Joe Biden. Craig Deleeuw Robertson was armed when agents arrived to serve a search warrant. Biden was expected to to visit Utah around the time the threats were made, per court documents. Robertson was charged under seal Tuesday with three felony counts, including making threats against the president, court documents show. Clark said Robertson had a collection of about 20 guns, though he noted that that wasn't unusual for the area.

Ken Block, a professional rally driver and YouTube star, died Monday in a snowmobile accident in Utah, officials said. Block was riding a snowmobile on a steep slope in the Mill Hollow area of Wasatch County Monday afternoon when “the snowmobile upended, landing on top of him,” the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office said. He was riding with a group, but the sheriff’s office said Block was alone when the accident occurred. “We are saddened to hear of the loss of Kenneth and our hearts are with his family and friends so deeply affected,” the sheriff’s office said. He kicked off his professional rally racing career in 2005, and was named Rookie of the Year that season in the Rally America Championship, according to a biography on his racing team's website.

Jan 2 (Reuters) - Pro rally driver Ken Block, who later became an internet sensation with his daring stunts behind the wheel, died aged 55 after a snowmobile accident, his team Hoonigan Racing said on Monday. "It's with our deepest regrets that we can confirm that Ken Block passed away in a snowmobile accident today," Hoonigan said in a statement on Instagram. The accident occurred in Utah's Wasatch County and the Sheriff's Office said that Block was riding on a steep slope when the snowmobile upended and landed on top of him. Having begun his rallying career in 2005, Block was named Rookie of the Year in the Rally America Championship. He competed in the World Rally Championship and won several rallycross medals at the X Games.
A solo skier was rescued in Utah on Wednesday night after being caught in an avalanche that carried him away and left him partially buried under debris, officials said.
