REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File PhotoBENTONVILLE, Arkansas, May 31 (Reuters) - Walmart (WMT.N) on Wednesday said it has not made any changes to its LGBTQ-related merchandise tied to Pride Month, or to security measures in place at its stores, a week after rival Target (TGT.N) pulled some LGBTQ-themed products following customer backlash. Last week, Target pulled some Pride-related merchandise, including items by transgender designer Erik Carnell, saying the products led to "volatile circumstances," such as confrontations between customers and Target employees, and customers throwing Pride merchandise on the floor. Walmart also offers LGBTQ-themed merchandise tied to Pride Month, which is celebrated in June, including rainbow-adorned flags, clothing and accessories. "In this particular case, when we think about security ...we have not done anything in particular differently related to security in our stores," Watkins said.

Walmart says it has no plans to change its Pride collection following the backlash against Target. Target said workers were threatened over its Pride items, leading it to pull them from some stores. "In this particular case, when we think about security ... we have not done anything in particular differently related to security in our stores," Watkins said. Late last month, Target made the decision to pull some Pride-themed merchandise and remove Pride displays at some of its stores after store workers and call-center employees were subjected to violent threats. That outcry over Target's Pride merchandise comes after a similarly anti-LGBTQ campaign targeting Bud Light earlier this year when the beer maker partnered with a trans influencer.

Walmart CEO and President Doug McMillon received total compensation of $25.3 million in the last fiscal year. In other words, McMillon got roughly 933 times the median compensation of a Walmart employee. The increase was met with mixed reactions from Walmart employees, as many said they were already making above $14 per hour. Though the pay difference between McMillon and his employees is above that average, Walmart hasn't cracked the top 20 for biggest pay gaps between CEOs and workers. Are you a Walmart worker?
With less than 90 days until the winter gift giving season, some holiday shoppers are getting started sooner rather than later. Half of winter holiday shoppers plan to begin making purchases before Halloween this year, according to a September Bankrate survey. Although about 12% of shoppers plan to wait until December to do their holiday shopping, getting a head-start can provide added time to plan and find the best deals. "Holiday shopping will look different this year with inflation around 40-year highs," Ted Rossman, senior industry analyst for Bankrate.com, says. Even before you begin to spend money, simply starting your shopping plan early can help your budget go farther.
