GlaxoSmithKline on Wednesday sued Pfizer in U.S. court, alleging patent infringement over Britain-based GSK's respiratory syncytial virus vaccine. GSK claims Pfizer's RSV vaccine, Abrysvo, infringes on four of its patents related to the antigen used in its own shot. "Upon information and belief, Pfizer knowingly uses GSK's claimed inventions in Abrysvo without permission," GSK wrote in a scathing complaint filed in federal court in Delaware. They are the first shots approved to prevent RSV, a common respiratory infection that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms, but more severe cases in older adults and children. Each year, RSV kills 6,000 to 10,000 seniors and a few hundred children younger than 5, according to CDC data.

Stocks that rallied Tuesday in response to "less than stellar" quarterly reports could bode well for earnings season, CNBC's Jim Cramer said. Cramer pointed to three companies that reported within the last 24 hours as examples: Spice company McCormick , Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger parent company PVH and Walgreens . The company reported earnings growth of 10%, above the 8.9% consensus number. Walgreens' rally was also "totally baffling," Cramer said, because it reported an adjusted operating income of $1.2 billion that missed consensus estimates. Cramer said he thinks these companies are representative of the broader market.
Equity duration is the time until the company's cash flows are received, weighted by their present values. Goldman defines its equity duration estimates as a weighted-average distribution of cash flows. However, short-duration stocks are the ones with strong earnings today, but no promise of earnings growth down the road. These short-duration names may provide a hedge against rising rates. The median implied equity duration for stocks in the basket is 18.3 years versus 22.2 years for the Russell 1000.
