AKRON, Ohio (AP) — The eight Ohio police officers who fired scores of shots that killed Jayland Walker, a 25-year-old Black man, after a car and foot chase last year are back on active duty, officials said. Michael Miller, in a statement, cited a state investigation and an Ohio grand jury's decision against indicting any officers in the June 2022 shooting death of Walker. Some of the officers first used Tasers to try and stop Walker, but he reached toward his waistband and raised a hand as officers were chasing, Yost said. The officers, whose identities haven’t been released, were put on leave following the shooting and then reinstated to desk duty in October 2022. Attorneys for the eight officers released a statement earlier calling the shooting a tragedy for the entire community, including Walker’s family and all of the officers who were involved.

Feb 20 (Reuters) - An explosion tore through an Ohio metals plant on Monday, sparking a fire and sending smoke billowing into the sky, local media reported, citing witnesses. The explosion occurred at the I Schumann & Co. metals plant in Bedford, causing a fire that triggered a call for fire departments across the greater Cleveland and Akron areas to respond, WKYC television news reported, citing witnesses. WOIO television reported that at least one injured person would be transported by helicopter from the scene. The business has produced copper alloys since 1917 and also produces brass and bronze alloys, according to its website. A Princeton University student who vanished days ago has been found dead, authorities said Thursday. Since Sunday, the Princeton University DPS had been leading the investigation into her disappearance along with the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office. On Wednesday and Thursday, Princeton University students were told to expect an increased law enforcement presence on and around campus as the desperate search continued with the use of a helicopter, drones and watercraft. They said they worked with her at Minds Matter Cleveland, a nonprofit that offers academic and mentoring resources for high-performing, low-income high school students. Slife added the sociology major “interned for Bank of America and worked for McKinsey.”Ewunetie's high school, Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School in Cleveland, said she was a 2020 honors graduate.
