Greek judicial authorities have jailed the captain and first officer of a yacht ahead of a trial on charges of arson over a forest fire on the island of Hydra believed to have been sparked by fireworks, legal sources said. The two men and the entire crew of the yacht have denied any wrondoing. Eleven other crew members were freed on bail and with restrictions. Flames engulf the Greek island of Hydra, on June 21. The 13 Greek crew members of the yacht, which was moored 350 meters (383 yards) from the shore when the fire erupted, were arrested on Sunday at a marina near Athens and charged with starting the blaze.

A firefighter was killed after a house in Virginia exploded Friday night, injuring 11 other people and scattering pieces of the home across the neighborhood, officials said. But in the beginning, I pushed myself and worked especially hard for the same opportunities more readily given to men. As a volunteer, the job responsibilities are the same as a paid deputy fire chief. Being a firefighter takes a lot of hard work and hard hoursBut all of that effort you put in makes it that much more rewarding. He's been a volunteer firefighter for 23 years, and he got hired to a full-time career position almost 18 years ago (so he is a paid firefighter as a day job and a volunteer firefighter on his days off).

Thompson hates when people call her a fireman, because "gender doesn't matter" when saving lives. I got to visit her fire department, as well as the fire school, and this experience sparked an interest in volunteer firefighting. When I first joined the fire service, an acquaintance joked: "I'm surprised they let women join the fire service. People will sometimes refer to me as a 'fireman,' which I absolutely hate"I'm not a fireman," I say in response. I've done a lot of training, and I've had to work extremely hard to get where I am today.
