CNN —Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed into law a key piece of legislation overhauling the country’s mobilization rules. The legislation places a new requirement on all men between 18 and 60 to register with Ukraine’s military and to carry their registration documents on them at all times. Ukraine’s parliament passed the law last week and Zelensky gave presidential approval Tuesday. A Ukrainian servicemen fires a howitzer towards Russian troops in Kherson region, Ukraine, in March. After the law passed last week, dozens of wives and relatives of servicemen gathered outside Ukraine’s parliament to protest and demand that mobilization deadlines be included.

CNN —Ukraine’s parliament has scrapped plans to give soldiers who have spent prolonged periods fighting on the frontlines the chance to return home on rotation, after passing a draft law seeking to boost the number of soldiers in its military. The draft law passed Thursday with 283 votes in favor, including a raft of measures aimed at providing a desperately needed boost for Ukraine’s military. Libkos/Getty ImagesThe issue of mobilization has bedeviled Ukrainian lawmakers for months, as the needs of its military clash with political constraints. Despite his death, Kyrkach-Antonenko found some new meaning, hope and purpose with the birth of their child. The Ukrainian parliament passed legislation in February to allow and fund the use of soldiers’ frozen sperm in case of their death. Once President Volodymyr Zelensky signs the bill into law, it will for the first time allow the widows of Ukrainian soldiers to use their dead partners’ reproductive cells – both sperm and eggs - to have children. It will also enable wounded soldiers to use their preserved reproductive cells to have children where their injuries would normally make that impossible. The possible injury to soldiers’ reproductive organs and trauma affecting the quality of sperm make cryopreservation of reproductive cells worthwhile, she told CNN, mentioning allegations of castration.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — A complex Russian missile attack targeted Ukrainian cities of Kyiv and Kharkiv on Tuesday morning, killing at least three people, wounding several others and damaging residential buildings, officials said. Meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv, Tusk said they had reached “an understanding” to resolve through talks any differences between their countries over grain shipments and trucking. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and France’s new foreign minister also traveled to Kyiv in the new year. Kyiv was the first foreign capital he visited since becoming prime minister again, Tusk said. The Ukrainian military, however, denied it had anything to do with the attack.

But now even as the war moves into what Zaluzhny described as “positional warfare,” Shevchuk is convinced it will remain on everyone’s minds. Kyiv resident Natalia Kovalchuk believes everyone in Ukraine will have to join the war effort in the long run.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Monday that Ukraine had taken delivery of its first shipment of U.S. jet-powered Abrams tanks to help in the defence against Russia's invasion. Mark Milley, the top U.S. general, has said he regards M1 Abrams tanks as the world's best and that they "will make a difference" in the 19-month-old war. With a powerful engine, 120 mm main gun and special armour, the Abrams tank is particularly lethal against heavy armour forces. Ukrainian tank crews training in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine said that once they were deployed, the Abrams tanks would be a big step up from the Soviet-era tanks they are currently operating. It's possible the T-14 has been used, but the war has tarnished the reputation of Russian tanks. "We haven't seen a single instance of this machine being used," Lt. Gen.
