CNN —The deadly flooding that rocked Spain this week following intense, historic rainfall is so expansive and severe the area looked like an inland sea from space. CNN —At least 51 people have died in flash floods in southeastern Spain, the regional government of Valencia said on Wednesday. Some locations in southern and eastern Spain received up to 12 inches of rain in just a few hours on Tuesday. The Valencia area averages 77 millimeters (3.03 inches) of rain for the entire month of October. Chiva, just east of Valencia, received 320 millimeters (12.6 inches) of rain in just over four hours, according to the European Severe Weather Database. CNN —Spain’s LaLiga says it is “studying and analyzing the facts” around the latest alleged racist abuse incident towards Real Madrid forward Vinícius Jr. at Valencia’s Mestalla Stadium on Saturday. He was also the target of racist abuse in Real’s league game at Valencia last season. These actions were the focal point of much of the abuse Federico received on his Instagram.

CNN —At least 13 people have been injured in a large blaze that ripped through an apartment building in the Spanish city of Valencia, local emergency services said Thursday. Valencia’s Emergency Services said on X, formerly known as Twitter, that six firefighters and seven residents were among those treated for injuries in several hospitals across the city. The fire continued into the evening, with flames and smoke pictured billowing through the complex. Reuters —The Rio de Janeiro government named an anti-racism law after Real Madrid forward Vinícius Jr. on Wednesday which will see sporting events stopped or suspended in the event of racist conduct. Brazil forward Vinícius was racially abused by fans when Madrid played Valencia in May, the 10th such incident involving the 22-year-old that LaLiga has reported to prosecutors that season. The ‘Vini Jr law,’ unanimously approved by the Rio government in June, includes protocol on how to process complaints of racism and mandatory educational campaigns. “Today is a very special day and I hope my family is very proud,” said Vinícius during a ceremony at the Maracanã Stadium, where he made his senior debut for Flamengo in 2017. “Sometimes, I wonder if I deserve so much,” he said.
