More than 80% of the ocean remains unexplored by humans but could soon be mapped by autonomous underwater robots. Autonomous robot submarines — also referred to as autonomous underwater vehicles, or AUVs — are able to explore high-pressure areas of the ocean floor that are unreachable by humans through preprogrammed missions, allowing them to function without humans aboard, or controlling them. Navies worldwide are investing in unmanned underwater vehicles to elevate their fleet of below-water defense tools. The U.K.'s Ministry of Defence also announced in August the donation of six autonomous underwater drones to Ukraine to aid in their fight against Russia by locating and identifying Russian mines.

Dec 19 (Reuters) - The United States Navy on Monday awarded Amazon.com Inc's (AMZN.O) cloud computing division a five-year enterprise software license contract worth $723.9 million. The deal will provide the Navy with access to Amazon Web Services' (AWS) commercial cloud environment, Professional Services and its training and certification courses. Earlier this month, the Pentagon awarded cloud computing contracts worth $9 billion to Alphabet Inc's (GOOGL.O) Google, AWS, Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) and Oracle Corp (ORCL.N) as part of the Joint Warfighting Cloud Capability contract. The Pentagon said work will be performed for a maximum of five years from December this year through 2028. The Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll showed Grassley leading Franken 46%-43% among likely voters. Grassley usually wins reelection handily, but Franken might give him his toughest race in decades. Franken, a retired United States Navy vice admiral, unsuccessfully sought the Democratic Senate nomination in 2020 but was defeated by businesswoman Theresa Greenfield.
