On Friday morning, eight of the cathedral’s bells tolled for the first time since April 2019, according to Alexandre Gougeon, who managed their installation. “Hearing the bells ring this morning was very moving,” Gougeon told CNN, adding that the project to install the bells had taken a year and a half. TOKYO — Mount Fuji has finally gotten its iconic snowcap, meteorologists in Japan said Thursday, more than a month later than it did last year and the latest of any year in 130 years of record-keeping. The previous record was in 2016, when Mount Fuji’s first snowfall arrived on Oct. 26, while last year the first snow was on Oct. 5. Mount Fuji, a national symbol of Japan, is a pilgrimage destination and UNESCO World Heritage site that attracts hikers from all over the world. A 2021 UNESCO report said that the film industry could help add $20 billion to Africa's combined GDP. HONG KONG — Scientists have discovered dinosaur fossils for the first time in Hong Kong. The bones were “scattered, fragmented, and weathered” when unearthed in a UNESCO-listed geopark in the Chinese territory’s Port Island, authorities said in a separate handout. “Experts infer that the dinosaur may have been buried by sand and gravel after its death, later exposed to the surface by floods, and then reburied at the discovery site,” it said. Hong Kong has previously found many plant and animal fossils, including ostracod and ammonite fossils from about 400 to 190 million years ago, but this is the first time dinosaur fossils have been unearthed in the city, the handout said. “The discovery of this dinosaur fossil is considered very lucky,” it said, noting that despite Hong Kong’s Jurassic to Cretaceous geological layers, which could contain dinosaur fossils, local researchers had not found any in more than a century of geological surveys.

Hong Kong’s Secretary of Development Bernadette Linn said that “the discovery is of great significance and provides new evidence for research on palaeoecology in Hong Kong,” the statement read. The dinosaur fossils will also be on public display at Hong Kong’s Heritage Discovery Centre from Friday onwards. Hong Kong's Antiquities and Monu/APExperts in paleontology say the landmark discovery is a big deal for Hong Kong, a city with a complex geological history and ever-changing weather patterns. Eyewitnesses said the crowd was reacting to the news that the mutilated body of an infant had been found 3 km (1.9 miles) from the Nimba Mountains Nature Reserve, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The research center said it had recorded six chimpanzee attacks on humans within the reserve since the start of the year. There are just seven left in Guinea’s Bossou forest, which forms part of the Nimba Mountains Nature Reserve, and is close to subsistence farming communities of the Nzerekore Region. The Nimba Mountains are also home to one of Guinea’s largest iron ore reserves, which has raised concern among environmentalists about the impact of mining on chimpanzees.
