Eighty years ago, the Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy, France, during World War II on what would be known as D-Day. Heads of state from around the world have traveled to France over the past few days to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the landing. Around 150 American veterans who took part in the landings were also expected to attend the ceremony. One American veteran, Robert "Al" Persichitti from New York, died while on his way to the memorial service. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Prince William also attended a separate Canadian commemorative ceremony near the village of Courseulles-sur-Mer, in northwestern France.

China's President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden will meet this week. They're expected to agree to limit the use of AI in nuclear weapons, a report said. Secretary of State Antony Blinken was asked last week about prospects the US and China could come to some understanding about keeping AI in nuclear weapons.

Ukraine fired long-range ATACMS missiles for the first time after they were delivered by the U.S., Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his nightly address Tuesday. "Today, special thanks to the United States. They are executed very accurately, ATACMS have proven themselves," he said, according to a Google translation of a transcript. The Wall Street Journal reported the news earlier Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter. Ukraine has repeatedly said ATACMS are important to advance its difficult counteroffensive in Russian-occupied areas.

WASHINGTON — Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell spoke by phone with two Russian pranksters earlier this year who falsely claimed to be President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine. "Chair Powell participated in a conversation in January with someone who misrepresented himself as the Ukrainian president," a Fed spokesperson told CNBC on Thursday. The video appears to have been edited, the Fed spokesperson said, adding that they could not confirm the video's accuracy. Powell does not appear to have said anything controversial during his call with the Zelenskyy impersonators, according to Bloomberg, which first reported the prank. Yet the sheer fact that two well known allies of Russian President Vladimir Putin were able to evade detection and speak to Powell directly raises serious questions about security procedures at the central bank's Washington headquarters.

Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskyy fired a slew of senior officials on Tuesday. In December, Symonenko went on holiday to Spain using a Mercedes owned by a prominent Ukrainian businessman, The Guardian reported. "Of course, now the main focus is the issue of defense, this is the issue of foreign policy, this is the issue of war," he said. On Monday, Zelenskyy banned officials from traveling abroad until the end of the war, except for when performing government duties.
