Read preview"I can't wait for my trip to France — I'm planning to visit all the tourist traps! Despite all the negative connotations around "tourist traps," most travelers to a new place can't help but visit the sites that attract a lot of tourists. AdvertisementThere's room for debate over what exactly counts as a tourist trap — can the historic and gorgeous Venice canals really be considered a tourist trap, even with the souvenir vendors and flocks of selfie-taking visitors? Although nearly all respondents acknowledged recently visiting a tourist trap, almost 70% said their visit to a tourist trap diminished their overall enjoyment of their trip. Avoiding so-called tourist traps, or at least spending less time at them, could also help curb the impacts of overtourism.

Prosecutors have framed the trial as more than a simple case of falsifying business records — the offense with which Trump has been charged. But the results of Trump’s pending cases — and whether they even come to trial — could help decide the tone of a future presidency. But at the same time, Trump is using the privileges of appeals available to any defendant to their full extent. “We’re writing a rule for the ages.”It’s always hazardous to speculate how Supreme Court justices will rule based on their questioning in oral arguments. This could mean the case returns to lower courts for more litigation — a move that could delay the federal election trial for months, far beyond the November election.

Lufthansa flight attendants to strike on Tuesday and Wednesday

A Lufthansa Airbus A380 aircraft stands at the gate at the airport prior to departure for Boston. Lufthansa's cabin crew union has called on its members to strike at Lufthansa and short-haul carrier CityLine on Tuesday and Wednesday to press their demands for higher pay. The UFO union of flight attendants said on Saturday that the strike, which was voted for by members, would affect departures from Frankfurt airport on Tuesday and departures from Munich on Wednesday. Europe's airlines have benefited from unprecedented demand since the pandemic, allowing them to raise prices, but higher labor and maintenance costs have limited earnings growth. On Thursday, Lufthansa ground staff walked off the job, while on Wednesday cabin crew voted to strike as they seek a 15% wage increase.

A Pentagon report denies government cover-up of extraterrestrial activity. The report refutes claims of UFO sightings and supposed knowledge of alien existence. AdvertisementThe Pentagon released a report saying they'd found no evidence of UFO sightings or an alien cover-up. AARO found no evidence confirming unidentified anomalous phenomenon (UAP) as extraterrestrial technology — most were ordinary objects or misidentified phenomena. CNN —The US military is developing portable UFO detection kits to collect better data on reports of sightings as the Pentagon says there is no evidence of alien technology found in any government investigation. The AARO office looked at US government investigations and efforts related to UFOs dating back to 1945. Some of the reported sightings of UFOs were people who unknowingly witnessed the testing or use of classified US technology. The AARO office is also collecting and investigating new reports and sightings of unidentified objects. In February, the office closed 122 cases, Phillips said, most of which was debris in the atmosphere.

These days, however, conspiracy theories and those who believe them seem to be playing an outsize role in politics and culture. On the left, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has exploited conspiracy theories about vaccines to wage his own campaign for the presidency this year. The Associated Press has examined the history of conspiracy theories in the United States. “I was suicidal before I got into conspiracy theories,” said Antonio Perez, a Hawaii man who became obsessed with Sept. 11 conspiracy theories and QAnon until he decided that they were interfering with his life. Russia, China, Iran and other U.S. adversaries have worked to amplify conspiracy theories as a way to destabilize democracy further.

Opinion: The actual hidden truth about UFOs

CNN —A former Pentagon official — driven, he says, by his duty to the truth — goes public with an explosive allegation. Facing a scrum of TV cameras and members of Congress, this official claims that the US government has been keeping crashed alien spaceships under wraps for decades. Crashed alien spacecraft and dead extraterrestrials, right there in the Congressional Record. Because, for decades, UFO true believers have been telling us there’s a US government conspiracy to hide evidence of aliens. But — if you believe Kirkpatrick — the more mundane truth is that these stories are being pumped up by a group of UFO true believers in and around government.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky city has come up with an out-of-this-world campaign to promote tourism. The Lexington Convention and Visitors Bureau used an infrared laser to beam a message into space to invite extraterrestrial travelers. “The first thing you’ll notice as you descend through Earth’s atmosphere above Central Kentucky is the lush green countryside that surrounds Lexington’s vibrant city center. It goes on to describe gentle rolling hills, horse farms and bourbon before suggesting places to stay and eat and shop. “We included imagery representing the elements of life, our iconic Lexington rolling hills, and the molecular structure for water, bourbon, and even dopamine … because Lexington is fun!”It could take a while to get an answer though.

ROSWELL, N.M. (AP) — The International UFO Museum & Research Center in Roswell, New Mexico, is celebrating an out-of-this-world milestone: 5 million visitors. A father and daughter from Roswell became the lucky visitors when they entered the museum earlier Nov. 21, the Roswell Daily Record reported. Museum Executive Director Karen Jaramillo said it was a surprise that Roswell residents brought them to 5 million because so many guests are from out of state. The UFO Museum, which opened in 1992, draws over 220,000 visitors each year, Jaramillo said. An annual UFO Festival, operating since 1996, brings as many as 40,000 people to Roswell, according to a city report.

Zuniga presented a letter signed by 11 researchers from the university declaring the same. The bodies that he and the other university researchers looked at, however, were real, he said.

Think you have evidence of a clandestine government UFO program? Now there's a form for that. "We are exploring methods for how the public can do so in the forthcoming third phase of the secure reporting mechanism," he said. Kirkpatrick told reporters that his office has been tasked with gathering information on UFO incidents going back to 1945, according to a Defense Department transcript. Sensitive or classified information should not be included in the form, Kirkpatrick said, explaining it's meant as an "initial point of contact" with his office.

Several producers, agents, and other dealmakers also weighed in for this story about the content market and what the streamers are looking for. In short, broadcast network-type shows that will grab broad viewership are the top priority for Netflix and all its competitors. Netflix wants another 'Squid Game' and more true crime, but 'nothing too political'"Squid Game." And for its version of Hulu's "The Bear," it wants a series set in a fast-paced world, but not a restaurant. In unscripted and non-fiction programming, per both documents and Insider's sources, true crime remains a big area of focus for series as well as films.

That sound of unimaginable terror is what a psychiatrist recorded when he put a man named Barney Hill under hypnosis in his office one day in 1964. The office has received approximately 800 reports of unidentified objects to investigate as of this past April, up from 650 reports in August 2022, Sean Kirkpatrick, who heads the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office at the Pentagon told CNN. “I am worried from a national security perspective.”But Kirkpatrick could offer few details about why certain reports raised suspicions about foreign involvement. The portal for historical sightings is set to open sometime in the next month or so, Kirkpatrick told CNN. Its purpose is to validate or refute past reports of unidentified objects, checking them against other reports and cataloging them for possible further analysis. Asked if the US government should have created an effort to handle unidentified objects earlier, Kirkpatrick demurred.

Unidentified flying objects, or UFOs, have captured the imagination of Americans for decades. But much of the conversation has been confined to science fiction movies and novels. A big one suggests the U.S. has been concealing alien life and technology in secret compounds like Area 51 in Nevada. A 2019 poll found 68% of respondents believed the U.S. government knows "more about UFOs than it is telling us." Then, in June 2022, NASA convened an independent expert panel to help study UAP incidents and advise the Department of Defense on how to gather and interpret data on UAPs.
