It’s another alarming sign for the future of America’s homeowners’ insurance market. “We’re still kind of at the forefront of the insurance industry pricing in climate risk into the real estate market,” Porter told CNN. CNN —An ethnic studies professor who was accused of claiming to be Native American has agreed to part ways next year with the University of California Riverside following a complaint filed by colleagues, documents show. The separation agreement makes clear that Smith “denies and disputes all allegations contained in the complaint.” CNN has reached out to Smith for further comment. “The nine-page separation agreement will bring a negotiated end to Professor Smith’s employment with the university,” university spokesperson John Warren said in a statement. Earlier this year, another California professor issued an apology for claiming to be Native American. Hoover remains part of UC Berkeley’s faculty.

But if you work in an office, chances are the temperatures indoors felt the exact opposite. When air conditioning became standard in buildings in the 1950s, offices started “overcooling,” explains Salvatore Basile, the author of “Cool: How Air Conditioning Changed Everything.” Building owners wanted to show that they offered the comfort of air conditioning, but sometimes they offered too much of it. “Air conditioning was a sexist technology. According to a 2015 paper by Kingma, temperatures in office buildings appear to be based on the heat needs of a 40-year-old, 154-pound man. “Start by raising the office temperature 5 degrees, and then give people the option to use fans, either at their desk or installed into the ceiling,” says Schavion.
