Browning West's move is unusual in the activist world, where investors are more often focused on replacing CEOs than backing them. Browning West, a long-time shareholder, points to Chamandy's success in an increasingly competitive industry as one reason why he should be CEO. Berg has served on Gildan's board since 2015 and has been chair since 2019. Browning West seeks to replace Berg and seven other directors with their own nominees, including Chamandy and Browning West's Lee. Last week, Gildan applied to a Quebec court to nullify Browning West's request and to cancel the meeting.

The Sudden Death of a Model Magnate

Not without reason has modeling been termed the ugly business of being beautiful. Opaque, barely regulated and often cutthroat, it is seldom viewed as an incubator of big-hearted altruists. Instrumental over his 30-year career in finding and then shaping the careers of some of the most stellar names in the business — among them, Gisele Bündchen, Liya Kebede, Carolyn Murphy, Gigi Hadid, Stephanie Seymour, Tyra Banks, Kate Upton and Joan Smalls — he was also an early champion of diversity and inclusion and a canny marketer with a gift for anticipating shifts in the overall cultural mood. When Mr. Bart went to IMG after a previous job heading Ford Models, “people still thought of models as having a use-by date,” said James Scully, a retired casting agent and himself a noted star-maker. “It was, ‘You had your moment, and now there’s a new car in town.’”Mr. Bart, by contrast, took a long view of the talents he helped foster and had a singular ability to recalibrate a model’s trajectory, often more than once over the course of their career.

REUTERS/Shannon Stapleton/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON/CHICAGO, Aug 24 (Reuters) - A highly mutated COVID variant called BA.2.86 has now been detected in Switzerland and South Africa in addition to Israel, Denmark, the U.S. and the U.K., according to a leading World Health Organization official. It has since been detected in other symptomatic patients, in routine airport screening, and in wastewater samples in a handful of countries. That the known cases are not linked suggests it is already circulating more widely, particularly given reduced surveillance worldwide, she said. There have been nine such cases detected as of Aug. 23 and the variant was also found in wastewater in Switzerland. Jha and others, including the European public health agency and COVAX, the global program for getting vaccines to the world's poorest, said COVID surveillance and defenses could be reactivated in the event of a major infection wave.

Victoria's Secret launched a new campaign with supermodels Gisele Bündchen, Adriana Lima, and Candice Swanepoel. Their photos in Victoria's Secret catalogs made them household names — the brand even dubbed them "Angels" to further cement their place as modeling royalty. Critics on social media pointed out that the new Victoria's Secret campaign looks eerily similar, even down to the name: It's called "The Icon" while Kardashian's was "Icons." Swanepoel posted about her return to modeling for Victoria's Secret in an Instagram post. "What a wonderful sense of belonging to come home to my VS family for this Iconic campaign!"

Bella Hadid is starring in a new Victoria's Secret campaign, provoking a mixed response online. Victoria's Secret overhauled its brand following criticism of its "tone-deaf" image. While many comments on Hadid's post expressed excitement about the campaign, some slammed the brand for "perpetuating body dysmorphia to young women." "Skinny people exist and are allowed to be represented," one person wrote, while others referred to her diagnosis with Lyme disease. Victoria's Secret has majorly overhauled its brand in recent years following criticism of its "tone-deaf" image, including a controversial 2014 ad campaign that featured the slogan "the perfect body."

In the back seat of a car en route to the West Village, she reflected on her shift from model to advocate. “And then I felt like I entered a new trap, which is respectability politics.”Ms. Rocero said she never felt fully comfortable in the role of trans role model. At first she was excited to assume what she called an Angelina Jolie persona — a beautiful, world-trotting champion of social issues. “Ines was the first one,” Ms. Rocero said, referring to the French model Ines Rau. In the West Village, Ms. Rocero once again jaywalked while approaching Rosecrans, a combination florist and coffee shop.

Arizona Gov.-elect Katie Hobbs is taking the state’s child protective services agency in a radically different direction in the wake of a ProPublica-NBC News investigation into the racial disparities that have plagued the child welfare system here. This week, Hobbs, a Democrat, announced that she has selected Matthew Stewart, a Black community advocate, as the new head of Arizona’s Department of Child Safety. Arizona’s child welfare system has long disproportionately investigated Black families. After leaving DCS, Stewart formed the community organization Our Sister Our Brother, which has fought the department for more equitable treatment of Black and also low-income parents. Child welfare experts in the state and families affected by the system praised Stewart’s selection, though some wondered how much change he could bring about even in DCS’ top position.

A moose walked by and shook its body, almost like a disgruntled dog, and then “pop,” its antlers snapped off its head. “He’s like, ‘I don’t think there’s any video of a moose shedding his antlers and the fact that you had both of them drop at the same time... I don’t think that’s ever been recorded.'" She posted the video on TikTok and Facebook, where it immediately went viral. Many people have told her they didn’t even know moose lost their antlers.
Put another way, more Black children in metro Phoenix will go through a child maltreatment investigation than won’t. Almost all described a system so omnipresent among Black families that it has created a kind of communitywide dread: of that next knock on the door, of that next warrantless search of their home. Many Black families first moved there as a result of redlining and racial covenants that blocked them from renting or owning property elsewhere. In Maricopa County, Black children experienced child welfare investigations at one of the highest rates among large counties nationally, and nearly three times the rate of their white peers, from 2015 to 2019. But throughout the country, investigations were more pervasive among Black families.

Michael Kanyon got a call to work for "America's Next Top Model" in 2009 as the lead hairstylist. The next day, I went to his salon and told them I wasn't leaving until he gave me a job.
