New York CNN —They are still a very small minority in the 401(k) universe, but there were a record number of 401(k) participants with balances over $1 million at the end of the first quarter this year, Fidelity Investments said Thursday. Fidelity is one of the largest providers of workplace retirement plans, and its 401(k) data is based on more than 23 million plan participants. The average balance for the so-called 401(k) “millionaires” came to $1,580,000, up from $1,551,300 in the fourth quarter, a Fidelity spokesperson said. Other 401(k) participants also saw increases in their balances in the first quarter. The average savings rate hit a record 14.2%, including employer matches, and is very close to the recommended 15% savings rate from Fidelity and retirement savings experts.

But new research shows that weekly injections of semaglutide cut the risk of severe outcomes from diabetic kidney disease by about 24%. The new study found even broader related benefits of semaglutide treatment among people with diabetic kidney disease. “Kidney disease attributed to diabetes, or diabetic kidney disease, is one of the most common and deadly complications of diabetes. Yet, unfortunately, there’s very low awareness around it,” said Dr. Katherine Tuttle, chair of the Diabetic Kidney Disease Collaborative for the American Society of Nephrology.

New York CNN —Amazon Fresh has joined the growing ranks of retailers that are cutting prices. It is discounting thousands of grocery items in a bid to entice price-conscious shoppers to add a little bit more to their shopping carts. In the game of chicken between stores and shoppers, it’s the stores that finally appear to be yielding. For Prime members, Amazon Fresh is stacking more savings by offering a 10% discount on hundreds of online grocery items.
