CNN —Mitch McConnell has bowed to political reality and announced that he is relinquishing his role as leader of Senate Republicans.
(Chao served as transportation secretary under former President Donald Trump, before quitting the post following the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol.)
The anti-Trump coalition within the Republican Party is small and hanging on by a thread, and there is little chance of that changing in the short term.
Now, one of Haley’s most generous benefactors, the conservative political action committee Americans for Prosperity, funded by the Koch network, has withdrawn its funds.
And now, like other Trump opponents, Romney finds himself heading for the exit at the end of his current term.
