CNN —Two federal judges in south Florida urged District Judge Aileen Cannon to forgo overseeing the criminal prosecution of former President Donald Trump when she was first assigned the classified documents case in 2023, according to a report from The New York Times. Cannon is still overseeing the case, which has seen a multitude of delays and is not yet scheduled to go to trial. Altonaga’s chambers declined to comment on the report to CNN. The Times did not identify the second judge who reportedly contacted Cannon. CNN —Boris Epshteyn, a close adviser to Donald Trump and former White House aide, pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to election subversion charges stemming from an April indictment in Arizona. A federal judge in Washington, D.C., at a hearing Thursday ordered former Trump White House aide Steve Bannon to report to jail by July 1 to begin serving a four-month sentence for his criminal contempt of Congress conviction. Outside of court, Schoen told reporters, "The decision has it wrong factually in many many ways, it's a horrible decision." Bannon told reporters Thursday, "I've got great lawyers, and we're gonna go all the way to the Supreme Court if we have to." The Georgia Court of Appeals on Wednesday stayed the criminal election interference case against former President Donald J. Trump until an appellate panel could resolve the matter of whether the district attorney in Fulton County should be disqualified from prosecuting the case based on a conflict of interest.
