New York CNN —Costco’s new chief financial officer has a reassuring message for inflation-weary customers: don’t worry about the price of the $1.50 hot dog-soda combo. “To clear up some recent media speculation, I also want to confirm the $1.50 hot dog price is safe,” Costco CFO Gary Millerchip said on an earnings call with analysts Thursday. With Costco’s leadership change — and other longtime deals like Trader Joe’s 19-cent bananas and Planet Fitness’ $10 membership ending amid rising inflation — some had speculated about the future of Costco’s $1.50 hot dog. If Costco’s hot dog deal kept pace with inflation, it would be three times as expensive today — nearly $4.50. The $1.50 hot dog is a powerful marketing tool for Costco and is synonymous with Costco’s brand.

The Alexa team worried they had invented an expensive alarm clock, weather machine and way to play Spotify music, one source said. CNN —Former NBA champion Glen Davis has been sentenced to 40 months in prison for his part in a scheme to defraud the league’s health care plan out of millions of dollars, according to federal court records from the Southern District of New York. Davis – whose nickname while he played in the NBA was “Big Baby” – was also ordered to pay $80,000 in restitution, according to court documents. In November, Davis was found guilty of wire fraud, health care fraud, conspiracy to commit health care fraud and conspiracy to make false statements related to health care matters, court documents show. Williams, who has been called the “leader of the conspiracy” by prosecutors, pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft and conspiracy to commit health care fraud and wire fraud in 2022, according to a judgment order. For most of its 27 years as a public company, Amazon investors have been asked to sacrifice profit for growth. ☆ Alaska Airlines 2024 forecast tops estimates after loss from Boeing Max grounding

Alaska received $162 million from Boeing for the Jan. 5 accident, which caused the Federal Aviation Administration to briefly ground the planes. The accident has added additional regulator scrutiny on Boeing and slowed its deliveries of new Max planes, of which Alaska is a major customer. "Alaska [Airlines] needs Boeing, our industry needs Boeing and our country needs Boeing to be a leader in airplane manufacturing," he said. Alaska forecast adjusted earnings per share of between $2.20 and $2.40, above the $2.12 analysts polled by LSEG expected. Adjusting for one-time items, Alaska posted a net loss of 62 cents a share in the second quarter, less than the $1.05 per-share loss analysts were expecting, according to LSEG.

Instacart, DoorDash, and other apps seem to be trying to roll back Seattle's new gig worker pay law. They say Seattle gig workers are making less and delivering fewer orders after many raised prices. But in the preamble to the survey, Instacart indicated it already had thoughts about how things were going. One poster, who included screenshots of the message, encouraged other Instacart shoppers to turn the pre-written letter to the city council around. Uber Eats and Grubhub have also put out statements saying that things have gotten worse for their gig workers since Seattle's law took effect.
