Local fans of the NBA's Denver Nuggets and the NHL's Colorado Avalanche will have some new ways to watch their teams' games this season. Beginning this season, there will be 20 Nuggets and 20 Avalanche games on Tegna's free local over-the-air broadcasts, 9NEWS and My20. The platform will give fans in the Denver media market access to all Avalanche and Nuggets games for $19.95 a month. Stars games will be available on streaming service Victory+ this season, and the local Ducks games will be available via Victory+ and a local over-the-air broadcast. These pay TV contracts help support the billions of dollars in fees that the networks pay professional sports leagues to air their games.

Diamond Sports — the owner of Bally Sports-branded regional sports networks — reached a deal with Comcast on Monday that will see its networks go live for cable customers on Aug. 1. Pay TV companies such as Comcast have been bleeding customers in recent years as customers opt for cheaper streaming options. Comcast said last week it lost 419,000 domestic cable customers during the second quarter and now has roughly 13.2 million subscribers in total. The National Football League is considering allowing minority private equity ownership for its 32 teams of up to 10%, Commissioner Roger Goodell said in an exclusive CNBC interview Thursday. "I think it may be leading to some rethink into the consideration of letting private equity, as an example, or institutional investors into the NFL." Private equity incentives around reaching investment targets and exit thresholds could alter the motivations for ownership in ways that make the bigger sports leagues uncomfortable. Private equity firms, tasked with finding investment vehicles to make returns on their assets under management, may be better suited to minority ownership.

New York CNN —Although the future of the NBA on TNT remains uncertain, the cable network will at least have tennis. Under the “new expansive deal,” all roughly 900 matches will air live on the streaming platform Max, with featured matches on TNT and TBS and a new whip-around show on truTV. WBD already has an existing relationship with Roland-Garros since it began broadcasting the tennis tournament across Europe on Eurosport since 1989. The Tennis Channel stepped in to air more matches in 2006, splitting the rights with NBC. Tennis has seen its popularity and ratings grow in the past few years, which could help WBD’s sport portfolio.

"I think it may be leading to some rethink into the consideration of letting private equity, as an example, or institutional investors into the NFL." While U.S. pro sports leagues had prohibited private equity investors previously, they've largely softened their stances in recent years, aside from letting any firm be a controlling owner of a team. "We've got a lot of interest in the private equity space," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said at the league's spring meeting in May. "We are making real progress on potential private equity. Ross Sorkin asked Harris if allowing private equity investors into sports would have any negative impacts on the teams or the league's overarching strategy as those investors look toward an exit.

Diamond Sports — which operates its networks under the Bally Sports brand — has been under bankruptcy protection since March of last year. The leagues are worried the owner of the largest portfolio of regional sports networks won't have a viable business plan sorted out ahead of the 2024-25 season. Meanwhile, numerous NBA and NHL teams have reached deals with local broadcast station groups to carry local games. Diamond Sports must put together a reorganization plan, outlining its future outside of bankruptcy protection, and receive court approval to move forward with it. The NBA has pushed for Diamond Sports to have "a very clear business plan no later than July," Indelicato said Tuesday.
