But if you were generally tense, anxious, or fearful around your parent or caretaker, there's a chance you were raised by an eggshell parent. An eggshell parent is "often highly unpredictable, and unsafe in some way," she added. Sage shared a few signs you grew up with at least one eggshell parent, and what the long-term impacts of such a relationship can be. She added that eggshell parents often lack self-awareness of how their intense mood swings impact other people, especially their kids. Without that acknowledgment, children of eggshell parents might continue to believe that they "caused" their parents' outbursts, and that they're responsible for managing other people's emotions.

Matt Mills Mcknight | ReutersRENTON, Wash. — Cash-strapped Boeing is facing mounting costs from an ongoing machinist strike as workers push for higher pay. New York CNN —Self-service kiosks at McDonald’s and other fast-food chains have loomed as job killers since they were first rolled out 25 years ago. The kiosks show the unintended consequences of technology in fast-food and retail settings, including self-checkout. Chains are now experimenting with artificial intelligence at drive-thru lanes, and the experience with kiosks holds lessons for them. It raised a familiar refrain that those workers would be replaced by technology, such as self-service kiosks. Fast-food chains and retailers need to do a better job communicating what the potential benefits of kiosks and self-checkout are to consumers and employees, Andrews said.

Alvarez reflected on how it took her a while to understand the traumas of a dictatorship through her parents. So, it helped me to understand them and their generation, which has been called ‘la generación perdida’ (the 'lost generation') because so many in that generation lost their lives." The documentary ends with her most recent novel, “The Cemetery of Untold Stories,” which Alvarez published this year at age 74. Alvarez said that after arriving in Queens, she felt that her family “had lost everything.” But in spite of feeling like an outsider, poetry helped her find a new home. I probably would still continue to rent because renting is a whole lot cheaper than doing what I did.

An investigator has backed the World Anti-Doping Agency’s handling of a case involving 23 Chinese swimmers who failed drug tests weeks before the Tokyo Games and said WADA had not been complacent nor shown bias toward China. Swiss prosecutor Eric Cottier, who was handpicked by the global anti-doping agency, said in a preliminary report in July that WADA did not mishandle the case involving the swimmers, who tested positive for trimetazidine (TMZ) but were cleared by a Chinese investigation. Cottier reiterated those findings in his final report on Thursday but also criticized WADA for failing to challenge Chinese anti-doping authorities (CHINADA) for not following all of the procedures laid down in its anti-doping standard. The case prompted a backlash from athletes and national anti-doping authorities, who questioned WADA’s processes and complained about a lack of transparency in the case. “The ongoing failure to investigate and to answer the critical question of whether the 23 positive tests were due to contamination or intentional use will haunt athletes around the world for years to come.”

The pace of inflation likely moderated again in August — further relief for beleaguered consumers still smarting from pandemic-era price shocks. Though price growth has largely returned to the Federal Reserve's official 2% target, the sting of rapid price increases over the past four years lingers for many consumers. The latest inflation report is likely to cement a 0.25% cut in the Federal Reserve's key interest rate, currently at about 5.3%, later this month. But experts say it will take some time for consumers to feel the impact of the lower interest rate — and the relatively small size of the cut means borrowing costs will still be somewhat elevated. While the Fed is now widely expected to cut interest rates, a cut of just 0.25% may not be enough to stave off that scenario.

In a house with two small kids, clutter was a given. Our house wasn't dirty, but it was full of things we didn't need — clothes that no longer fit, threadbare towels, unused kitchen utensils, toys we'd outgrown. The idea of throwing or giving away things you no longer needed felt wasteful and foolish, so she just kept everything. Even today, getting him to toss broken or unused items takes an act of Congress.
