Oca said all venues Elev8 Fun uses are converted commercial spaces of more than 100,000 square feet. Construction began in the empty Sears stores at the citrus Park Mall in early 2022 and the facility opened in May 2023. The team also studied the local demographic and competitors to decide which attractions made sense to include in each new Elev8 Fun center. Netflix has shown little-to-no interest in investing in either live-news or pre-taped programming (a la, a show akin to “Vice News Tonight” or “60 Minutes”). Rebuilding the traditional cable package without news is akin to putting together a meal that includes steak, potatoes and ice cream, but not the broccoli. Director James Gorman bought 20,000 shares of the entertainment company for $2.1 million on May 8, according to securities filings and VerityData. Gorman's buy is something of an outlier among Disney executives this year, as two executive vice presidents have made small sales in 2024. Several other Macerich insiders have also bought shares in May. Pegram also bought shares in March.

Sam Rubin, a journalist for the television station KTLA 5 in Los Angeles whose morning interviews with celebrities became requisite viewing for much of the entertainment industry and who endeared himself to Hollywood insiders with his geniality and knowledge of their work, died on Friday. Mr. Rubin’s death was announced by a KTLA anchor, Frank Buckley. A tribute segment that aired on the station said the cause was a heart attack. In an industry known for its changing names and evolving trends, Mr. Rubin was for decades a mainstay for viewers across the city and an interview with him was considered a rite of passage for many stars. His ability to make celebrities feel comfortable as he asked them about their craft spanned generations.
