Read previewMartin Luther King, Jr. once said: "The quality, not the longevity, of one's life is what is important." On June 23, when the Fever faced off against the Sky in Chicago, the average ticket price was around $250 — the most expensive average ticket price ever for a WNBA game — according to the ticket resale marketplace TickPick. It's not uncommon for star athletes like Clark to drive soaring ticket prices when they play away from home. If two arenas have the same level of ticket demand, the one with more seats could, in theory, have lower ticket prices. Tickets cost less in smaller marketsThings tend to cost more in cities like New York than they do in Indianapolis, including ticket prices. It's possible that, to some degree, Fever home ticket prices have been kept in check by the Indianapolis market.

A new bifurcation in strong labor market"What we are experiencing now is a bit of a bifurcation of the labor market. Schelling says the 2024 job market for grads is strong, but focusing too much on degree attainment alone is a mistake. Some labor market experts see burdensome application requirements among the undercurrents roiling an already difficult job market for grads. In the end, he says a grad's job market's prospects will vary depending on where they are, what they are applying for, and what they want.

CNN —Writings on an ancient clay tablet have allowed experts to reconstruct a Bronze Age ship made of reeds and sail it on a maiden voyage off the coast of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. It is the world’s largest reconstruction of a Bronze Age Magan boat, according to the team. The research project’s goals were to uncover ancient craftsmanship techniques, determine the connections between Bronze Age societies and better understand the role Abu Dhabi once played in Bronze Age trade. After passing five days of trials, the ship sailed toward Saadiyat Island off the coast of Abu Dhabi and the open sea on March 2 and 3. “Seeing the Magan Boat sail on the water for the first time actually took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes.”

Under an 80-year-old treaty, the United States and Mexico share waters from the Colorado River and the Rio Grande, respectively. They say the lack of water from Mexico is propelling them into crisis, leaving the future of farming in the balance. Pain in both countriesThe water from Mexico goes to the Falcon and Amistad Reservoirs which straddle the border and provide water to homes as well and farms. To rely only on storms to reduce water scarcity would make Mexico “totally exposed to what nature decides about our water future,” UNAM’s Magnaña Rueda said. Ultimately, there needs to be a recognition that water sharing agreements must adapt to a changing climate, Rueda said.

When Dorothy Jean Tillman II successfully defended her dissertation in November 2023 to earn her doctoral degree from Arizona State University, she couldn’t wait to share the news with her best friend. “It was a surreal moment,” Ms. Tillman said, “because it was crazy I was doing it in the first place.”Ms. Tillman, at only 17, became the youngest person to earn a doctoral degree in integrated behavioral health from Arizona State’s College of Health Solutions, all before she was eligible to vote. Earlier this month, Ms. Tillman, now 18, took part in Arizona State’s commencement ceremony and delivered remarks as the outstanding 2024 graduate at the College of Health Solution’s convocation. Lesley Manson, program director for the doctorate of behavioral health at Arizona State and Ms. Tillman’s doctoral chair, said Ms. Tillman displayed extraordinary perseverance, hard work and dedication for her young age, tackling every challenge head-on.

The BackgroundFluoride strengthens tooth enamel, and research suggests that drinking water with added fluoride can reduce cavities by up to 25 percent. Most of the women lived in areas with fluoridated water. The researchers measured the fluoride levels in their urine in a single test during the third trimester. And on average, higher fluoride levels in the mothers’ urine were correlated with a greater risk of behavioral problems in the children. That said, the increases in behavioral scores were relatively small — about two points on a scale from 28 to 100 for overall behavioral problems.

Opinion | ‘The Very Real Insanity of College Admissions’
  + stars: | 2024-05-18 | by ( ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
To the Editor:Re “2024 Was the Year That Finally Broke College Admissions,” by Daniel Currell (Opinion guest essay, May 5):While Mr. Currell effectively lays out the current admissions climate, the sunny last-minute outcomes for the two applicants he follows undermine his otherwise valid critiques. While Ivy was rejected by her early decision school, she was admitted to her second choice, Dartmouth, an Ivy with a 6 percent acceptance rate. Rania, though disappointed with her Barnard rejection, also found herself a terrific outcome at Wesleyan, another highly acclaimed school, with a free ride to boot. Both of these outcomes are extreme positive outliers these days. Following two applicants who actually had to make significant compromises would have more accurately encapsulated the reality check that college-bound kids and parents need in the face of the very real insanity of college admissions these days.

Palm Sunday commemorates the Christian belief in the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, when he was greeted by cheering crowds waving palm branches that they set out on the ground along his path, according to the Bible. The procession of Jesus into Jerusalem is described by the four Gospel writers in the Bible. Some ceremonies in German-speaking countries used to include a figure of Jesus riding a donkey, Encyclopedia Britannica says. The figure is called a “ Palmesel,” or German for “palm donkey,” according to New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, which on its site recounts how worshippers would lay palms on the ground before the Palmesel during lively processions. Christian pilgrims in the Holy Land mark Palm Sunday by holding Masses and processions retracing Jesus’ triumphal entry.

CNN —A vigil will be held Monday afternoon for Laken Hope Riley, an Augusta University nursing student who was found dead after jogging on the University of Georgia campus last week, as her suspected killer’s immigration status has drawn the scrutiny of Republican leaders. Riley, who was a UGA student until May 2023, was found dead Thursday near a lake on the university’s campus from blunt force trauma, according to UGA Police Chief Jeff Clark. Riley’s killing has left the University of Georgia to grieve two tragic deaths that occurred less than a day apart: Her body was discovered just hours after the death of a UGA student the previous night. The Monday afternoon vigil will be co-hosted by Riley’s Alpha Chi Omega sorority at UGA in remembrance of both of the dead students, the university said.
