He will be 81 when the election is held in November 2024, making him the oldest American to win a presidential election should he secure a second term. Republican presidential candidates are split between those saying abortion laws should be left to the states and those supporting a national ban. Republican candidates, including Trump, have blamed Biden for reversing more restrictive Trump-era policies, and have pledged to step up border security. Other Republican candidates, such as Pence and Haley, say the United States must continue to back Ukraine.

Tesla's efforts are facing early tests as some states start rolling out the funds. But individual states can add their own requirements on top of CCS before distributing the federal funds at a local level. In June, Reuters reported that Texas - which will receive and deploy $407.8 million over five years - planned to mandate companies to include Tesla's plugs. That forced Texas to defer a vote on the plan twice as it sought to understand NACS and its implications, before the commission voted unanimously to approve the plan on Wednesday. REUTERS/Evan GarciaTENNESSEE COLONY, Texas, Aug 10 (Reuters) - The brown and black cattle of Texas, beloved symbols of the Lone Star state, walk through desiccated grass and stand in shrunken watering holes while their ranchers struggle to get them enough food. Henderson, 62, manages a herd of about 150 cows in Tennessee Colony in East Texas, and said he sold roughly 30 cows in 2022 due to the drought. Texas State Climatologist John Nielsen-Gammon predicts extreme heat spurred by global warming will become the norm. And that, in addition, means that the heat extremes will be that much hotter and that much more severe."

Those announcements follow decisions by GM (GM.N) and Ford (F.N) to add Tesla charging technology, shunning efforts by the Biden administration to make CCS the dominant charging standard in the United States. Texas - home to Tesla's headquarters and a new car factory complex - is the first state which will mandate Tesla's charging technology, giving a boost to CEO Elon Musk's hope of making it the national charging standard. "It’ll effectively make an NACS the new charging standard," Cox said. The move was to prevent Tesla's North America Charging Standard from dominating the network. And at least one other state is considering giving applicants bonus points on applications if they include the Tesla charging ports.

[1/6] Migrants seeking asylum in the U.S., gather on the Matamoros-Brownsville International Border bridge, in Matamoros, Mexico May 12, 2023. Now, she is trying another way she hopes will be easier: the U.S. asylum app. "It's much better," Silva said on Thursday at the border, scrolling through a WhatsApp chat with tips about the app known as CBP One. Under the COVID-era order, U.S. officials could immediately expel migrants back to Mexico, blocking them from requesting asylum. Alongside her, two young men from Venezuela said they were also going to seek asylum appointments on the CBP One app.
Jesus Nava, the mayor of Santa Catarina in the state of Nuevo Leon, said in an interview that Tesla is purchasing the site from private owners. He said the land spans nearly 4,200 acres in an industrial zone, more than double the size of Mexico City's international airport. Tesla's factory in Austin, Texas - one of three existing Tesla vehicle plants - sits on 2,500 acres, according to Tesla's website. Nava said Tesla will reveal what vehicles it will produce at the Nuevo Leon factory when it breaks ground, which it plans to do in three months. Tesla uses recycled water, and such companies typically use minimal liters of water per second, he added.
The justices will hear the case during the court's next term, which begins in October. The case is the latest to come before the Supreme Court seeking to rein in the authority of federal agencies. The CFPB, which enforces consumer financial laws, was created after the 2008 financial crisis as part of a federal law known as the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. A Democratic-led Congress in 2010 set up the agency to draw funding annually from the Federal Reserve, the U.S. central bank, which last fiscal year transferred around $642 million to the consumer protection agency. The court heard arguments in November in two other cases involving agency power.
Jan 17 (Reuters) - Freeport LNG's long-shut liquefied natural gas (LNG) export plant in Texas started receiving pipeline natural gas over the long U.S. Martin Luther King Jr holiday weekend, according to Refinitiv data. Gas started flowing to Freeport on Jan. 14 and was on track to reach 69 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) on Tuesday, according to data from Refinitiv. Freeport has not yet filed a request with federal regulators to restart the plant, according to a source familiar with the company's filings. Whenever Freeport returns, U.S. gas demand will jump. The plant can turn about 2.1 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) of gas into LNG, which is about 2% of U.S. daily production.
In 2019, Cambodia supplied 8,571 of the 33,818 research monkeys imported to the U.S., or 25%. In 2021, the number of monkeys from Cambodia more than doubled to 18,870, making up nearly 60% of the 31,844 research monkeys brought to America. Earlier this year, long-tailed macaques and pig-tailed macaques were listed as endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The decades long effort by animal rights groups to derail the monkey trade has made some impact. The incident shined a rare spotlight on the monkey trade, which largely goes on outside the view of the public.
Defer payments (once they resume)The pandemic-era policy suspending federal student loan payments and the accrual of interest is still active. Those are the ideal ways to postpone your federal student loan payments, because interest doesn't accrue. Use the Public Service Loan Forgiveness programThe Biden administration has recently made a number of improvements to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, which allows those who work for the government and certain nonprofits to get their debt cleared after a decade of payments. To reach forgiveness, you need to have made 120 qualifying, on-time payments in an income-driven repayment plan or the standard repayment plan. Lenders will likely be overwhelmed when they have to begin collecting loan payments from tens of millions of people again.
