House Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued a statement Friday signalling that House members are ready to move forward with articles of impeachment as well 25th Amendment legislation. Democratic House leaders are looking to vote on articles of impeachment as early as Monday, according to Rep. Katherine Clark. Vice President Mike Pence's advisors told Insider that Pence would oppose 25th Amendment legislation, and in a speech today, Biden said the decision to impeach Trump would lie with Congress. "I have instructed the Rules Committee to be prepared to move forward with Congressman Jamie Raskin's 25th Amendment legislation and a motion for impeachment," Pelosi's statement said. "Accordingly, the House will preserve every option — including the 25th Amendment, a motion to impeach or a privileged resolution for impeachment."

ET Live Updates: Twitter Bans Trump Account, Resignations Grow and Impeachment Threat Looms House Democrats intend to introduce an article of impeachment on Monday charging President Trump with “willfully inciting violence against the government of the United States.” President-elect Joe Biden prioritizes the economy, saying there is a “a dire, dire need to act now.”Democrats ready impeachment charge against Trump for inciting the mob. The threat was part of an all-out effort by furious Democrats, backed by a handful of Republicans, to pressure Mr. Trump to leave office in disgrace after the hourslong siege by his supporters on Wednesday on Capitol Hill. At least one Republican, Senator Lisa Murkowski, Republican of Alaska, followed Ms. Pelosi’s lead and told The Anchorage Daily News that she was considering leaving the Republican Party altogether because of Mr. Trump. Among enraged Democrats, an expedited impeachment appeared to be the most attractive option to remove Mr. Trump and register their outrage at his role in encouraging what became an insurrection. The sweeping clampdown on asylum would have prevented a large swath of people from qualifying for protection in the United States by narrowing eligibility.

(CNN) News outlets are publishing more and more videos , photos and testimonials from Wednesday's pro-Trump riot on Capitol Hill. The public didn't find out that a US Capitol Police officer was gravely wounded until Thursday, for example. But there was something way, way darker, more violent, more sinister, and more organized happening in that Capitol on Wednesday. On the internet, Hayes' segment was titled "Must-see new video shows Capitol riot was way worse than we thought ." It understandably took some time for journalists to digest what they'd witnessed and ingest their video from the Capitol.

The U.S. attorney in Washington initially refused to rule out investigating Mr. Trump’s role in the riot. The deadly storming of the Capitol by Mr. Trump’s supporters transformed the politics of Washington in ways that were still hard to measure. The December call to the investigator, like the call Mr. Trump made to Mr. Raffensperger, was recorded, the official said. Mr. Trump had pressured Mr. Pence publicly and privately to overturn the certifications and throw them back to the states so that Mr. Trump could try to undo results in states that Mr. Biden won. Victory for Democrats in the Georgia runoffs is a disaster for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, costing him his dominant role in the Senate. McConnell has been majority leader for six years, but once the Biden administration begins he will be minority leader. He will also lead a Republican minority fractured by internal conflict and with no allies in the White House. He is due to swap places with current Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, a Democrat, and become minority leader himself — meaning he longer decides what happens on the Senate floor. Democrats talk about 25th Amendment, impeachment after Capitol riots

The Washington riot that broke out Wednesday has revamped talk among Democrats about impeaching President Donald Trump or ousting him from office via the Constitution's 25th Amendment. It's not clear whether impeachment will gain support from most Democrats, and it's almost certain there isn't enough time to remove him that way. If Democrats impeached Trump after he left office and he were convicted in the Senate, he would not be permitted to hold office again. Several other House Democrats are now pursuing another means to hasten the moment Trump is constitutionally mandated to leave office. Under that amendment, the vice president and a majority of the Cabinet can declare the president no longer able to hold office.

President Donald Trump faces numerous legal issues at the federal and state levels that could occupy his time for years to come. Trump's legal turmoil involves the president's administration, campaign, inaugural committee, and businesses interests. The outgoing president could face criminal and civil matters at the federal, state, and local levels. During an hourlong phone call, Trump asked Raffensperger, a fellow Republican, to "find" 11,780 votes in Georgia — a state that Trump lost by roughly that many votes. Three Democratic members of Congress, in two separate requests filed during late December, have asked the Department of Justice and Federal Election Commission to investigate whether it violated election laws.

Democratic Rep. Mark Pocan is asking the Justice Department and Federal Election Commission to investigate the Trump campaign's shell company. The Trump campaign has said no laws were broken with the use of the shell company. Complaints piling up against Trump campaign shell companyAs a civil law enforcement agency, the FEC may fine political committees and actors for campaign money violations. Among those cases is one filed in July by the nonpartisan Campaign Legal Center, which accused the Trump campaign of using AMMC to illegally disguise campaign spending. He added that "the deep involvement of Kushner and other senior Trump campaign officials in AMMC is important, because it further shows the Trump campaign did not have an arms-length relationship with AMMC — instead, AMMC was just an extension of the campaign."

The Trump campaign shell company that helped hide $617 million in 2020 presidential campaign spending was almost exclusively a Trump family production, run in part by a top deputy to Eric Trump, Insider has learned. But when Lara Trump quit the board, Trump advisors familiar with AMMC did not assume her power had waned. It wasn't me," Parscale tweeted on Monday, pasting a photo of a spreadsheet of his budget for the Trump campaign. The Trump campaign never publicly disclosed Miller's campaign salary, just as it did not disclose the salaries of Guilfoyle and Lara Trump. By contrast, the nominal president of the Trump campaign shell company, Trump campaign chief financial officer Sean Dollman, was paid directly by the Trump campaign in publicly available payments disclosed to the FEC.

Trump's campaign and an affiliated committee regularly spent millions of dollars through American Made Media Consultants, according to FEC records. Insider was able to independently verify those details with other sources close to the Trump campaign. A request for comment from the Trump campaign was not immediately returned Friday evening. But in a previous statement to Insider, Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh said Lara Trump and John Pence did nothing wrong. Among those cases is one filed in July by the nonpartisan Campaign Legal Center, which accused the Trump campaign of using American Made Media Consultants to illegally disguise campaign spending.

Despite its $617 million spending through AMMC, the Trump campaign publicly disclosed little information about the company, including how it used the money. The man who signed incorporation documents creating a secretive Trump campaign company at the heart of a new Insider investigation appears to be an anti-Trumper. That spokesperson, Laura Crozier, confirmed that CSC "serves as the registered agent for many companies nationwide, including American Made Media Consultants." The shell company — incorporated as American Made Media Consultants Corp. and American Made Media Consultants LLC — allowed Trump's campaign to skirt federally mandated disclosures. Insider independently verified details of the source's account with other people close to the Trump campaign.
