Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley (L) and Former U.S. President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, campaigning in New Hampshire on Jan. 23rd, 2024. Donald Trump on Saturday made it clear that former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley is not on his running mate shortlist, quieting rumors that his campaign had been considering her as an option. The comment came several hours after Axios reported that Haley was in the Trump campaign's vice president conversation, citing two anonymous sources. Haley's wealthy donor base could help Trump make up his fundraising problems, which are compounded by legal fees related to several ongoing lawsuits. "Now when I say that, that probably means that she's not going to be chosen as the vice president."

Other VP contenders at the weekend meeting included Stefanik, Scott and North Dakota Gov. This may help to explain why some influential Trump donors are especially wary of Ohio Republican Sen. J.D. Rubio, Stefanik, Scott and Burgum have all privately been pitched to Trump as top prospects with close ties to top business leaders. Those ties could bolster Trump's fundraising operation if one of them is chosen as his running mate, according to people familiar with the matter. Burgum could even help to self-fund Trump's campaign, just as he did for his own Republican primary run for president.

Donald Trump has yet to choose a running mate for his third attempt to win the White House. Trump has not laid this out explicitly, although he has already said that he will not commit to honoring the outcome in November. I don’t change on that,” the former president said in a recent interview with The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “If it’s not, you have to fight for the right of the country.” We know, from the 2020 election, that anything short of a Trump victory is, for Trump, tantamount to fraud. “At the end of the day, the 47th president of the United States will be President Donald Trump.”(Watching Scott’s performance, one half-expects him to also tell his interlocutor, “Donald Trump is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I’ve ever known in my life.”)

Kristi Noem said Donald Trump was “exactly right” to want states in charge of abortion access in America. For Noem, Scott and others in consideration to become Trump’s running mate, the former president’s latest contortions around abortion present a new challenge as they compete for his attention. Trump angered several anti-abortion leaders this week by refusing to back a federal abortion ban while embracing exceptions that Republicans throughout the country have for years opposed as morally questionable. But for a party that has long defined life as beginning at conception, Trump’s latest evolution on abortion will test those aspiring to run with him. “That’s just a fact.”Rubio was an early co-sponsor of South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham’s bill to ban abortion nationwide 15 weeks into a pregnancy.

Donald Trump's campaign said it raised $50.5 million on Saturday, a staggering reported haul as his campaign works to catch up to the fundraising juggernaut of President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party. Trump and the GOP announced earlier in the week that they raised more than $65.6 million in March and closed out the month with $93.1 million. Biden and the Democrats announced Saturday that they took in more than $90 million last month and had $192 million-plus on hand. Campaign fundraising reports filed with the Federal Election Commission detailing donations from Saturday's event are not expected until a mid-July filing date. But when checks of any amount are written to the combined campaign, the campaign and Save America get paid first by default.

Mike Pence, Donald J. Trump’s former vice president, indicated on Friday that he would not be falling into line behind the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, as some of Mr. Trump’s other previous rivals including Ron DeSantis, Vivek Ramaswamy and Tim Scott did. When asked whether he would endorse Mr. Trump now that the former president had clinched the party’s nomination, Mr. Pence said on Fox News that he “could not in good conscience” support him. “It should come as no surprise that I will not be endorsing Donald Trump this year,” he told Martha MacCallum on her talk show “The Story.”The former vice president declined to say whether he would vote for Mr. Trump in the November election, but answered, “I would never vote for Joe Biden.” He also ruled out running as a third-party or independent candidate for president, saying he remained a Republican.

As he emerges victorious from the Republican primary race, Trump faces considerable challenges both inside and outside the political arena. Wednesday’s inauspicious start to Trump’s outreach efforts is reflective of the longstanding concerns about his temperament and style that inspired many Republicans to support Haley, Florida Gov. In cruising to his party’s nomination, Trump left little doubt that he remains the dominant figure in the GOP. From Iowa and New Hampshire through Super Tuesday, Haley especially exposed persistent divisions in the party and headwinds for Trump recapturing moderate support. Meanwhile, nearly three in 10 of all primary voters said Trump wouldn’t be fit for the presidency if he is convicted of a crime.

Read previewAfter a series of second-place finishes on Super Tuesday, Republican former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley seems poised to end her presidential campaign. Her dropping out of the race would leave former President Donald Trump the only remaining major candidate in the running to obtain the GOP nomination. Hayley had a relatively poor showing on Super Tuesday itself, losing to Trump in 14 of the 15 voting states. Earlier in the race, Haley's best bet to win the nomination was outlasting Trump in the hope he'd drop out of the race amid his slew of ongoing legal issues. A more likely pick, as Trump himself previously suggested, would be Sen. Tim Scott, Vivek Ramaswamy, or South Dakota Gov.
