Solar panels stand at the Welspun Energy solar power plant in Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh, India. One sector in particular — electrical power transmission — will see $270 billion in financial benefits, according to Goldman Sachs. While utilities like the Power Grid Corporation of India may be perceived as unsexy, compared to growth stocks like Tesla, India plans to promote renewable energy without the taxpayer spending a single rupee. The country has added about 70 gigawatts of solar power capacity over the past decade without piling on further costs by simply maximizing the grid's usage. Currently, state governments in India levy surcharges and taxes on every unit of carbon-intensive energy transmitted through the grid.

USA Cricket Vice-Captain Aaron Jones poses next to a giant cricket ball, installed at a marketplace to mark 100 days to go for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, in Miami, Florida, on Feb. 22, 2024. But the sport has boomed in India, the world's most populous country, as well as some other former British colonies. And now, the U.S. men's national cricket team will represent the home country in this year's International Cricket Council Men's T20 World Cup. While traditional cricket matches can last as long as five days, a T20 match typically lasts around three hours. The early June world cup matchups will bring some of that star power to the U.S., with a high-profile India-Pakistan competition and culminating in a U.S.-India match.

The series will begin on Jan. 11 in Mohali before moving to Indore for a match on Jan. 14. The final match will be in Bengaluru on Jan. 17. The lefthander was Australia's leading scorer with 535 runs at an average of 48.63 during their run to a sixth World Cup title in India. "Selectors decided Warner would return home on the back of a successful yet demanding World Cup campaign," Cricket Australia said in a statement on Tuesday. Emerging Western Australian all-rounder Aaron Hardie has replaced Warner in the squad after making his ODI and T20 International debuts during the recent tour of South Africa. Just seven of Australia's World Cup-winning squad will play the T20s, while head coach Andrew McDonald will also skip the series, handing the reins to stand-in Andre Borovec.

It was a remarkable journey for Australia, who began their campaign with back-to-back defeats yet still finished with the 50-overs World Cup in their arms for the sixth time. Shakib had already caused controversy over his appeal that led to Sri Lanka's Angelo Mathews becoming the first player in international cricket to be 'timed-out'. Cummins, for one, had no doubts about the stature of the original World Cup. "I think it's the pinnacle of international cricket," said Cummins, who was part of Australia's victorious 2015 squad. "The whole cricket world stops with this World Cup."

Former Australia all-rounder Simon O'Donnell slammed the Black Caps for their lack of competitive instinct but Mitchell, who scored a 119-ball 134 in New Zealand's response, said the approach would not change. "I think that's something we really pride ourselves on as Black Caps and as New Zealanders. "It's something that we're really proud of, so we'll just keep being Black Caps and doing what we're doing." New Zealand next travel to Bangladesh for a two-test series starting on Nov. 28 and Mitchell said the disappointment of their semi-final exit at the World Cup would not have any impact on their performance. Nov 17 (Reuters) - Australia head into their World Cup decider against India with all pieces in place following a devastating return to form of their vaunted pace attack in the South Africa semi-final. "It's probably not been the tournament I would have liked from the get-go," Starc told reporters. "It's huge, and the bigger the game the more important it becomes," said Hazlewood of capturing early wickets. Australia beat England in Ahmedabad on a pitch which Hazlewood described as good "without being an absolute flat track". He said he expected similar for the final but was confident Australia's quicks would be able to deal with any conditions.

Babar Azam steps down as Pakistan captain after World Cup exit
  + stars: | 2023-11-15 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
Nov 15 (Reuters) - Babar Azam stepped down as Pakistan's cricket captain on Wednesday, days after a group stage exit from the World Cup. Azam captained Pakistan in all three formats starting October 2019, and led them to number one in ICC One Day International (ODI) rankings for the first time in May. Pakistan slid from the spot after finishing fourth in Asia Cup and fifth in the World Cup. Batsman Shan Masood has been announced by the PCB as the new test captain while pacer Shaheen Afridi will be the T20 captain. Azam is ranked by ICC as a top five batsman in all three formats, and is Pakistan's most successful captain in T20 Internationals with 42 wins.

"My goal is still to set my sights on playing the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean (next June) first. And I think from there, I'll probably decide what I'm going to do with white-ball cricket. Warner, Australia's leading run-scorer at the World Cup with 499 runs from nine innings, said he would not accept a central Cricket Australia contract next year, preferring to play on as a freelancer. That's something that becomes a pain in the backside as well, especially at the stage of my career I'm at." "You don't get told anything," Warner said.

KOLKATA, Nov 14 (Reuters) - Australia head into Thursday's World Cup semi-final against South Africa with the same excitement in the dressing room that propelled them to their maiden triumph in the T20 World Cup in 2021, Glenn Maxwell said. Maxwell was part of Aaron Finch's groundbreaking squad in the United Arab Emirates in 2021 and scored an unbeaten 28 in the final against New Zealand. "The excitement of that match has given us a whole new belief going forward," Maxwell said in an interview with Australian broadcaster Fox Sports. "It reminded me of the T20 World Cup in 2021. KOLKATA, Nov 14 (Reuters) - Pat Cummins is unsure whether he will continue as Australia's one-day international captain after the World Cup but is looking to return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) next season in preparation for the Twenty20 showpiece. Test skipper Cummins, who will lead Australia into their semi-final against South Africa on Thursday, took on the ODI role with an eye firmly on the World Cup when Aaron Finch retired from the format last year. Probably like we've done in the past, at times white-ball cricket is going to have to shift so we fully focus on test cricket. "I feel like I've been managed really well and looked after, albeit in a really, really busy year where you don't really want to give up any cricket." "I feel like I haven't played a heap of T20 cricket and in some ways I feel like I haven't played my best T20 cricket for a little while," Cummins added.

The only team below them is the Netherlands, the sole non-test playing nation at the 10-team World Cup. Mott did not want to say if it was the end of an era for their ODI team but he admitted it was a missed opportunity after winning the T20 World Cup last year. "For us, every time you play a World Cup you know it could be your last ... they don't come along very often," Mott added. "In the last 12 to 18 months we've done well in the T20 World Cup and we've bombed out here. "A T20 World Cup is the next thing on the agenda (in June 2024), from an ICC events point of view.

Buttler said the Afghanistan result was a "big setback". "We’ve got to show a lot of character, a lot of resilience within the team and most of all a lot of belief. LUCKNOW, Oct 15 (Reuters) - Australia are struggling to read the wickets at the World Cup in India and are adapting to the conditions "on the fly", skipper Pat Cummins said on Sunday as the five-times champions look for their first win of the tournament. Australia are ninth in the standings after they were beaten by India and South Africa in Chennai and Lucknow, respectively. But Cummins said playing a T20 game was very different from the one-day international format. "It's a tricky one, ODI cricket compared to T20s - played over half the game in daylight, half at night," Cummins told reporters. Australia have lost their last four World Cup games stretching back to the 2019 edition.

Quite a few of the hospitals have seen a sudden influx of patients booked in for check-ups involving a night's stay to coincide with the most anticipated match of the World Cup. The Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association has discouraged its members from accommodating such fans. India and Pakistan head into the showdown having both won their opening two matches at the tournament. The city has been declared a 'no-drone zone' on Saturday, and 11,000 security personnel will be deployed for the high-profile match, Ahmedabad police commissioner GS Malik said. Australia picked up their first 50-overs title in 1987 before winning three in a row from 1999 to 2007. "I think we had a really strong run in the early 2000s," Cummins told reporters on Wednesday. With their fiery attack, formidable batting and electric fielding, Australia set the benchmark in 50-overs cricket during that era but reigning champions England have replaced them as the dominant limited-overs side, also winning the T20 World Cup in Australia last year. Cummins, in his first World Cup as Australia captain, is one of several frontline players returning from injuries but the 30-year-old says Australia have what it takes to win in India -- an abundance of all-rounders. Babar's men were accorded a warm welcome in Hyderabad in what is their first tour of India since the T20 World Cup in 2016. Babar and his team mates were surprised by the support they received since landing in Hyderabad, where they played both their warm-up matches. They will launch their bid for a second 50-overs World Cup title at the same southern Indian city against the Netherlands on Friday. Babar's concerns are understandable considering Pakistan's bowling lost considerable sting after speedster Naseem Shah was ruled out of the World Cup with a shoulder injury. Pace spearhead Naseem Shah injured his bowling shoulder against India and was ruled him of the World Cup disrupting his potent new-ball partnership with Shaheen Afridi. Although this is not the first time Pakistan would enter a World Cup looking slightly unsettled, they will have their work cut out in India. Thanks to a soured political relationship between the Asian neighbours, bilateral cricket remains suspended between India and Pakistan, who meet only in multi-team events.
