Starbucks customers at US stores are spending more per order than ever before, execs said Tuesday. Ruggeri attributed the record ticket sizes to the specific products customers picked, rising menu prices, and the number of customizations they added to their beverages. Starbucks' cold foam, which generally costs $1.25, is its most popular add-on, company executives said last summer. A record number of Starbucks orders — around 30% — are now placed via its app, and its US delivery business has grown nearly 80% year-over-year, Narasimhan said on Tuesday. Store efficiency also increased, Ruggeri said, with a record number of items made per labor hour.

Now I'm 24, and I'm totally sober. Some people even go as far as to tell me that I just must think that I'm perfect since I don't drink. I don't think drinking takes away from a person's moral goodness. Even though some people may try to make me think again about my decision to stay completely sober, I'm not going to change my mind. I am content with the choices I make and feel that those who don't understand don't need to.

CNN —Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce could potentially be heading towards retirement, but right now, he appears to be focused on having the time of his life. The seven-time Pro Bowl center was in attendance in western New York on Sunday in support of his younger brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Kelce was also seen in among the action before the game as well. Kelce and Swift are spotted in the suite ahead of the game. All in all, while it might have been a Kelce family day to remember, Jason definitely seemed to be the one in the best spirits.

Bashir wears an Erdem floral-printed bra top, Erdem skirt, Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, Old Jewelry earrings along with her own bracelet and ring. "Part of building a business was going out and sharing what you were doing with the world," Bashir says. For years Bashir's startup had been building muscle around these capabilities; now it had an eager audience. Eating at acclaimed restaurants is fine, but Bashir prefers the more-intimate affairs at tech executives' homes because, she says, "you can stay longer."

The Hunt for the Ideal Bánh Mì
  + stars: | 2023-09-06 | by ( Bryan Washington | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +2 min
In the 1950s, bánh mì skewed further from French tastes and closer to the distinctly Vietnamese iterations that are ubiquitous today. Since the 1970s, when the Vietnamese diaspora became a global presence, bánh mì have proliferated as well. Their bánh mì crunched like a symphony, accompanied by what was likely the best chile crisp I’ve ever had. Ideally, you’ll pick up the baguettes and butter from a Vietnamese bakery or bánh mì shop. But it’s always worth going extra on the pork shoulder; leftovers hold the promise of future bánh mì.

As a longtime big Hollywood star and hitmaker, Ford had already achieved an immortality of a kind. It’s pretty clear from his newest venture, the overstuffed if not entirely charmless “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” that while Indy may not in fact be immortal, the brain trust overseeing this installment wishes he were. They haven’t simply brought the character back for another go, they have also given him a digital face-lift. That said, the altered Indy is cognitively dissonant; I kept wondering what they’d done to — or perhaps with — Ford. “Raiders” was created by Spielberg’s pal, George Lucas, who saw it as a homage to the serials that he’d loved as a kid.

A.I. and TV Ads Were Made for Each Other
  + stars: | 2023-06-27 | by ( Mac Schwerin | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +3 min
Some of the people who make commercials today are worried that A.I. to make fake ads gives it a job it already excels at: assistant ethnographer, media-studies expert, unbiased auditor of cultural tropes. In “Synthetic Summer,” the partygoers seemingly don’t know how to drink: They hold cans a few inches from their faces or latch their lips to the sides. “Synthetic Summer,” for instance, has the DNA of a 20-year-old Bud Light commercial; it bears little resemblance to the brand’s latest Super Bowl spot. As far as brands are concerned, that’s fine: They need not train A.I.

Gus forced himself to take a bite, but the flavor was rancid, a sickly sweet imitation of cheese. Aidan Marchine, however, is an unusual author — at least for now — because Aidan Marchine is a set of computer systems. The journalist and author Stephen Marche wrote “Death of an Author” using three artificial intelligence programs. Or three artificial intelligence programs wrote it with extensive plotting and prompting from Stephen Marche. “I am the creator of this work, 100 percent,” Marche said, “but, on the other hand, I didn’t create the words.”
Bottled water can have an expiration date, though it's legal in the US to sell expired water. Drinking expired water probably won't harm you, especially if the water was stored properly. So while an expired water bottle from the fridge may be safe to drink, the bottle you forgot in your hot car trunk or on a sunny shelf probably isn't. What to do with an expired water bottleIf you suspect your water is bad, boil it to kill off any potential pathogens. A top election official in Georgia took aim at Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., for spreading "disproven conspiracies" after she falsely claimed during a House panel on election integrity that former President Donald Trump won the state in the 2020 election. Sterling, who came into the national spotlight when he denounced false claims of election fraud in Georgia after the 2020 election, was one of several elections officers who appeared Tuesday before the GOP-led House Election Integrity Caucus. Greene then made the repeatedly disproven assertion that there were "thousands" of dead voters whose ballots were counted in Georgia. "I'm going to follow up with one more thing: Trump won Georgia," Greene said, before voicing more election conspiracies, including the debunked claim that "suitcases" full of ballots were secretly scanned in Atlanta. Trump never conceded the 2020 election to President Joe Biden.
Now the SEC is suing the CEO of Swig's company for an earlier, separate gold-backed crypto scam. According to the SEC, Braverman was said to be the chief operating officer of one of two companies the regulator targeted in the complaint. When Swig's company announced Digau, cryptocurrencies were on a sugar high, with bitcoin trading above $60,000. Neither Swig nor Dignity Gold would reveal to Business Insider any of the specific site locations where the company plans to mine. To extract the gold, Swig partnered with a mining company called Apache Mill Tailings.
Pepsi launched a campaign Thursday encouraging customers to try the combination and use the hashtag #PilkandCookies (as in Pepsi plus milk) to showcase their Santa-friendly concoctions. “Combining Pepsi and milk has long been a secret hack among Pepsi fans,” said Todd Kaplan, Pepsi’s chief marketing officer, in a statement about the campaign. Pepsi is now publicizing the mix as its spin on “dirty soda,” a popular TikTok trend that combines soda with syrup and cream. Pepsi is recommending a number of recipes to those who want to go beyond just Pepsi and milk, perhaps hoping to launch its own viral combination. Swig, which calls itself “home of the original dirty soda,” has been around since 2010 and serves a wide array of the carbonated mash-ups.
DOHA, Nov 29 (Reuters) - Soccer fans at the almost alcohol-free World Cup are ready to pay high prices for a beer, a few have tried to smuggle booze into stadiums but most simply accept that drinking is off limits at the first tournament in a Muslim country. A video shared on Twitter showed security staff seizing what appeared to be a pair of binoculars turned into a secret booze bottle by a Mexico fan trying to get into his country's match against Argentina on Saturday, which Mexico lost 2-0. But most supporters seem to understand that, for this tournament, old habits will have to be put on hold. Spain fan Raimundo Oujo, a businessman from La Coruna, said the mood in the stadiums was a little less charged than usual as a result of the booze ban. "Let's celebrate some other way, or you can also celebrate when you come back home and then you can have a big party."
Boosting energy efficiency of older buildings is seen as a key way to help countries meet their climate goals, although the pace of change has been slow so far. "What we figured out is that most buildings (...) are running on control technology that really hasn't changed since the 60s or 70s," President of Runwise Lee Hoffman said. "On a macro level, about 45% of carbon emissions in most major cities are coming from how buildings operate. So if you want to address climate, you literally have to start with buildings," he added. European Union lawkmakers last month backed plans to save more energy, including through renovating draughty buildings.
More good news for workers is bad news for the Fed

We the people can create the strongest job market in a generation and what do we get in return? Here’s the deal: The labor market is still very, very strong. And while that’s great news for workers, it’s bad news for the Fed. The “quit rate” held steady at 2.7%, or about 4.1 million workers voluntarily leaving their jobs — not a record, but still historically high. In summary: “If you were waiting for signs of labor inflation easing, you’ll have to keep waiting,” said Lightcast senior economist Ron Hetrick.

Revellers sit at long communal tables to swig beer, eat sausages, pretzel or pork knuckle, and listen to oompah bands.
