CNN —Two men were found guilty of murder Tuesday in the 2002 killing of Jam Master Jay, the pioneering DJ of the groundbreaking hip hop trio Run-DMC, in a case that for decades frustrated detectives and music fans alike. Ronald Washington, Jay’s childhood friend, and Karl Jordan Jr., Jay’s godson, were convicted of murder while engaged in narcotics trafficking and firearm-related murder. G. But the judge angrily told prosecutors that their questions to the witness had crossed the line. Jam Master Jay, born Jason Mizell, was shot dead in his recording studio on Oct. 30, 2002. NEW YORK (AP) — She was a teenaged aspiring R&B singer and rapper who had gotten an appointment at Jam Master Jay's recording studio. Concepcion was brought to tears as she testified Thursday in the trial of two men charged in the 2002 killing. “Where did Jay get shot?” she recalled asking one of the DJ's aides, Uriel Rincon, who himself had been shot in the leg. She said she asked him to help her check Mizell's pulse, so the two moved the 37-year-old rap star's arm. “I'm sorry — I can't talk about stuff like this,” Concepcion told jurors, fanning herself and tearing up, then duly going on to describe the graphic particulars of what they saw.

Now Jay’s case is the first of those killings to go to trial. Opening statements are set for Monday in the federal murder trial of Karl Jordan Jr. and Ronald Washington, who were arrested in 2020. Jay, born Jason Mizell, formed Run-DMC in the early 1980s with Darryl “DMC” McDaniels and Joseph Simmons, known as DJ Run and Rev.
