That yen hoard has mostly been held as cash with the aim of ploughing into Japanese bonds when yields eventually turn higher. "We're all waiting for the end of YCC so we can buy JGBs," said a Japanese pension fund manager who requested anonymity as he is not authorized to speak to media. Japanese banks have ploughed money into overseas bonds, but insurance firms and pension funds have kept their powder dry. MARKETS WONT BLINKSuch is the positioning and inertia among long term Japanese investors that analysts expect markets to barely blink even if the BOJ plays for time this week. Lifers and pension funds say they have very little exposure to Japanese government bonds, so a surprise policy change won't hurt them either.

The companies targeted in the 2023 campaign include repeat non-disclosers such as Exxon Mobil(XOM.N), Glencore (GLEN.L) and Caterpillar (CAT.N), CDP said in a statement. Since it launched in 2017, CDP has expanded the universe of companies it targets for data disclosure. That has meant the number of non-disclosing companies targeted this year is higher than in its 2022 campaign. Despite the progress, disclosure remains a problem in high-emitting sectors and getting laggards to submit data will prove tricky, she acknowledged. Overall, about 50% of companies across sectors disclose environmental data, Elsdon told Reuters.

The Bank of Japan left its monetary policy unchanged on Wednesday. The Japanese yen pushed higher against both the euro and U.S. dollar on Friday after a Nikkei report said Kazuo Ueda would be appointed as the Bank of Japan's next governor. Economist Ueda is a former member of the central bank's policy board. Kuroda has overseen the BOJ's policy of ultra-low interest rates while other major central banks have been hiking to tackle inflation. However, Muto added, he may not be a "super hawkish type" – so any "normalization" would take place very slowly.

Bank of Japan keeps ultra-low rates, dovish policy guidance

Sept 22 (Reuters) - The Bank of Japan maintained ultra-low interest rates and dovish policy guidance on Thursday, reassuring markets that it will continue to swim against a global tide of central banks tightening monetary policy to combat soaring inflation. "However, we believe that the BOJ will never allocate monetary policy for the FX rate adjustment and will stick to the YCC policy. "The most important thing is how the foreign-exchange rate reacts to that contrast in monetary policy between the U.S. and Japan. It also leaves the impression there will be no change in monetary policy during Kuroda's remaining term." He has said lesser about any merit of the weak yen recently out of consideration towards public sentiment against rising costs of living."
