It was one line from an itinerary of an upcoming field trip to Columbia, the capital of South Carolina. And no place proved more prescient than those Capitol steps. Deep in my heart, I was certain that one day I’d be living in Columbia as a college student. Illustration Ian Berry/CNNThe cosmos and crimeThe afternoon stops solidified the revelation I felt on the State House steps. For me, it was a mere 60-mile, in-state field trip – culminating with a Boxed Lunch on the Capitol Steps – that proved to be my date with destiny.

At first blush, it seemed to many to be the key to picking former President Donald Trump's lock on the Hawkeye State's Republican base. The alternative vote split roughly in two, leaving Republican Iowa firmly in Trump's hands as the first ballots of the 2024 presidential contest were cast. Trump does not thrive among suburban voters, a group that cost Trump nationally in 2020 and where Haley showed promise Monday. Haley, by contrast, beat Trump in Johnson County, Iowa, a burgeoning tract of homes and businesses along Interstate 80 south of Cedar Rapids. A week earlier, Trump volunteer Jackie Garlock looked around a similar hall in Mason City in northern Iowa on a snowy Saturday, convinced Trump would win.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Soon after U.S. bishops inside a Baltimore hotel approved materials on how Catholics should vote in 2024 elections, their recently ousted colleague and dozens of his supporters rallied outside the annual fall business meeting. Duke students, she thought, seemed more well rounded than students on some other campuses. I think it was me being a little bit naïve.” Other Duke students who identify as F.G.L.I. At Duke — as well as elite colleges that admit more low-income students — their graduation rate tends to be similar to the overall graduation rate. Over the past decade, as other elite colleges paid more attention to low-income students, they wooed some who once might have attended Duke. “Duke students are really oriented to the world,” she said.

The nation’s best-known public universities have been on an unfettered spending spree. Over the past two decades, they erected new skylines, poured money into big-time sports programs and hired layers of administrators. Then they passed the bill along to students. But learning the facts - that affirmative action is critical for fostering equal access and opportunity in our academic institutions -cemented my belief that affirmative action is necessary if we want to create an equitable nation. The court’s decision Thursday is consistent with its view that race-based preferences should and would have a limited shelf life. Jon Wang, who revealed himself as a plaintiff in this Supreme Court case, was rejected by Harvard but was accepted at and is now attending Georgia Tech. Affirmative action enabled my ability to experience different ways of thinking and to form the lasting friendships I have made. Affirmative action has been a tool used by many countries to ensure underrepresented communities are included in areas they normally are not.

Houghton University has dismissed 2 employees over the usage of pronouns in emails, per The New York Times. Raegan Zelaya and Shua Wilmot pointed to their gender-neutral names in explaining their use of pronouns. A university spokesperson told The Times said the institution has never "solely" terminated anyone over pronoun usage. Zelaya and Wilmot told The Times they had a reason for choosing to utilize pronouns in their emails, pointing to their gender-neutral names that sometimes cause people to misgender. The firings at Houghton University are the latest flashpoint amid an onslaught of anti-LGBTQ legislation and movements across the country.
Historically Black colleges and universities have been embroiled in a student housing crisis for decades. Fisk is believed to be the second U.S. higher education institution to utilize shipping containers for student housing after the College of Idaho implemented dorm-style containers in 2020. “The enrollment is growing so fast, and the shipping containers provide some sustainable flexibility. They all wanted to live in these shipping containers,” Frederiksen said. Meanwhile, other projects like the HBCU Healthy Housing (H3) Initiative from the Virginia-based advocacy group Student Housing of America are partnering with universities to build additional housing.

She hustled her way into building a business by going to trade shows and getting into wholesale. Our gross sales went from about $27,000 a month to $78,000 a month. It's just now kind of stabilized again by getting us close to our pre-pandemic sales of $80,000 to $100,000 per month. She responded and said, "You won't believe it, but my business partner also owns a space by the original Postino restaurant." It turned out that Scottsdale space resembled our Dallas space.
