The Rubyglow pineapple –— bred for its distinctive red exterior and its sweetness — costs $395.99 at Melissa’s Produce, a California-based seller of specialty fruit and veggies. It took Del Monte, a wholesaler which sells a variety of produce but specializes in pineapple, a decade and a half to develop the red-hued fruit. And yet, there’s interest in premium fruit — enough to convince Del Monte to bring the Rubyglow, which is grown in Costa Rica, stateside. Courtesy Fresh Del MonteThe Pinkglow was never supposed to be a grocery list staple, said Melissa Mackay, VP of marketing in North America at Del Monte. Melissa’s started with 50 pineapples, according to Robert Schueller, director of public relations at Melissa’s Produce.

When I became a parent, I realized that too much screen time was not good for my kids' developing brains. But my oldest, aged 6, kept asking to play video games because all his friends were already doing it. A video game system that gets kids movingI felt a little hypocritical for not allowing my son to play video games after my husband and I spent so much time doing so growing up. The video game console has a camera that records your movement, and instead of using a remote to play games, you use your body. We've reserved playing video games when it's raining or snowing outside, and they can't ride their scooters around our neighborhood.

Walmart wants diners to find a value meal in its grocery aisles. As fast food gets pricier, the nation's largest grocer sees a sales opportunity. As customers see some grocery items stay the same price or even become cheaper, the gap between buying menu items and cooking food at home has grown even wider, he said. As of April, the price of food at home, a category that measures the total cost of food purchased at grocers or other food stores, was up 1.1% year over year. The price of food away from home rose significantly more: 4.1% year over year.

I ranked products from Walmart's new house brand, Bettergoods, from worst to best. I tried the flavored butter, frozen desserts, and ice cream I found in my Pennsylvania location. Accessible premium groceries sounded pretty great to me, so I visited Walmart to see which Bettergoods products I could find to try. AdvertisementAt my nearest Pennsylvania location, I found three types of Bettergoods products on the shelves: flavored whipped butter, plant-based frozen desserts, and ice cream. Each butter was about $2.60, and the frozen desserts and ice creams cost about $3.50 per carton.

I was born and raised, and currently live, in a small city in California called Loma Linda. Higher interest rates in the United States and other countries mean investors can make bigger returns on investments there than they can in Japan. This encourages carry trades, in which investors borrow money in yen to invest it in higher-yielding assets priced in other currencies. That weakens the Japanese currency. A Big Mac costs 50% more in the next cheapest G10 currency, the New Zealand dollar, than it does in yen, he added. … and lots of drawbacksBut the falling yen has caused much pain at home and not just for small businesses like Japan Fraise.

Strawberries topped the "Dirty Dozen," a list of 12 fruits and vegetables ranked by pesticide contamination. AdvertisementStrawberries continue to reign supreme on the Environmental Working Group's annual "Dirty Dozen" list, which ranks fruits and vegetables by pesticide contamination. The "Dirty Dozen" list is part of EWG's 2024 Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce published on Wednesday. However, a toxicologist told Business Insider in 2017 that the amount of pesticides in produce on the "Dirty Dozen" list is likely too small to have significant consequences.
