The novel, which is a Finnish translation of the English original, was received at Helsinki Central Library Oodi’s lobby on Monday - more than 84 years after its due date of December 26, 1939. The returned book contained the borrower’s library card, leading staff to believe that the original patron who took out the book was a businessman from the Pursimiehenkatu area of the Finnish capital. I don’t know if this was the case with this book.”The book was a Finnish edition of Arthur Conan Doyle's Refugees. Strand said that the library already has two copies of the book in its collection, adding: “We sent the book to the book storage of Helsinki city library’s main library which is in Pasila. Library books belong to all of us and late returns are not a big problem.”

CNN —Weird, dark but compulsively watchable, “Eric” stars Benedict Cumberbatch and a hulking foul-mouthed puppet, not necessarily in that order. When Edgar abruptly goes missing, both parents blame Vincent, who becomes convinced his child’s drawings of an ogre-like puppet named Eric are somehow the key to finding him. As Vincent turns to self-medication to ease his anxiety and guilt, Eric appears to him, and him alone, ostensibly to help him locate the boy. Ivan Howe plays the missing child in Netflix's "Eric." Eric might need somebody to pull his strings, but give credit to “Eric” – especially considering the challenging nature of the concept – for so effectively tying those threads together.

Last summer, two years after an upside-down American flag was flown outside the Virginia home of Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr., another provocative symbol was displayed at his vacation house in New Jersey, according to interviews and photographs. This time, it was the “Appeal to Heaven” flag, which, like the inverted U.S. flag, was carried by rioters at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Also known as the Pine Tree flag, it dates back to the Revolutionary War, but largely fell into obscurity until recent years and is now a symbol of support for former President Donald J. Trump, for a religious strand of the “Stop the Steal” campaign and for a push to remake American government in Christian terms. Three photographs obtained by The New York Times, along with accounts from a half-dozen neighbors and passers-by, show that the Appeal to Heaven flag was aloft at the Alito home on Long Beach Island in July and September of 2023. Michael Douglas and Ludivine Sagnier in "Franklin." Yet unlike “John Adams,” it lacks the level of supporting players and driving tension related to the Adams-Thomas Jefferson dynamic to provide a strong sense of narrative momentum. Moderna on Tuesday said a new version of its Covid vaccine triggered a stronger immune response against the virus than its current shot in a late-stage trial. Moderna's current Covid vaccine, known as Spikevax, is its only commercially available product. The biotech company's new shot could offer a longer shelf life and easier storage than its Covid vaccine. The company will accomplish that by shortening the length of the mRNA strand in the vaccine, Moderna previously told CNBC. ATLANTA (AP) — A bill to require cash bail for 30 additional crimes is headed to Georgia Gov. The GOP-dominated House voted 97-69 for Senate Bill 63 on Monday, backing a measure that would erodes changes that Republican Gov. “This legislation will make it clear that Georgia is not going down the path of failure seen by other states and communities that have eliminated cash bail," Gaines said. It’s part of a push by Republicans nationwide to increase reliance on cash bail, even as some Democratic-led jurisdictions end cash bail entirely or dramatically restrict its use. Under the bill, bail would be required for a second or later misdemeanor offense of reckless driving or criminal trespass, as well as for any misdemeanor battery.

Then there’s the much more entertaining murder mystery, in which one or two people have been killed, or perhaps none. A priest once posted to Kilkinure is found dead in his Dublin home, and suspicion falls on the protesting women. At about the same time, Lorna hits her head in a pub and wakes up at home, to find a dead woman propped against the wall of her sitting room. Murtaugh, greatly abetted by Wilson, balances the heaviness of his material with a humor and a lightness of spirit that make “The Woman in the Wall” a brisk, engaging production. And the closing credits offer a bonus: a few bars of a haunting, unreleased number, “The Magdalene Song,” that Sinead O’Connor recorded shortly before her death which dovetails with Wilson’s performance.

Port Sudan CNN —I have reported on conflicts around the world for over two decades, but nothing prepares you to cover a war at home. To so many Sudanese, though, they are instantly recognisable as the words of the people’s poet: Mahjoub Sharif. I was warned to never, ever play with any of the tapes in the cassette deck, especially the tapes of Sharif’s songs. Yet, the moment the war broke out earlier this year, home was the only place I wanted to be. Forty years after I watched my parents sing and cry and laugh to the Sudanese songs smuggled out to them, I find myself searching through Spotify for Sudanese playlists.

The bottom line is that disinflation is real — indeed, spectacular. Are we all the way back to 2 percent inflation? But we’ve gotten most of the way there, without a recession or even a large rise in unemployment. Still, what strikes me about the dire inflation predictions of summer and fall 2022 is their non sequiturness (non sequituritality?). One strand of argument involved parallels with the inflation of the 1970s, which was indeed very hard to get down.
