CNN —Armand Duplantis reached seventh heaven at the Diamond League Final on Sunday as he yet again broke the pole vault world record. Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay also broke the women’s 5,000-meter record with a time of 14 minutes, 0.21 seconds. Sweden’s Duplantis needed just one attempt at 6.23m – a centimeter higher than his own record set in France earlier this year. Duplantis clears 6.23m at Hayward Field -- the seventh time he has broken the world record. Tsegay’s effort means that the women’s 5000m record has now been lowered by nearly 11 seconds over the past three years.

CNN —The National Women’s Soccer League and its players’ union have released a 128-page independent investigation report following a 14-month inquiry into accusations of “discrimination, harassment, abuse (physical, emotional or sexual) and retaliation” within the women’s professional league. The joint investigative team, which included members from two law firms, found “widespread misconduct directed at NWSL players” by those in positions of power. Following Wednesday’s release of the new report, US Soccer released a statement acknowledging the misconduct which mirrored incidents detailed in the Yates report. US officials said a committee looking at implementing recommendations in the Yates report should announce “a robust action plan” by the end of January.

Residents approved a prior marijuana referendum in 2020, but Governor Kristi Noem, a Republican, challenged the result in court. In addition to the statewide referendums, voters in some cities around the country will decide whether to decriminalize marijuana possession laws and whether to allow licensed cannabis retailers in their areas. All told, 19 states and the District of Columbia allow recreational use of marijuana, and 37 states regulate cannabis for medical use.
