A dermatologist told Business Insider sunscreen is the most important part of her routine. Everyone's skin wrinkles as they age, but genes, UV exposure, and repeated facial expressions can govern how deep they are and how many develop. Many people turn to "antiaging" creams and beauty products to lessen the appearance of wrinkles — in 2023, facial antiaging products made over $1 billion in the US, according to Statista. But because the Food and Drug Administration doesn't evaluate beauty products for effectiveness, there's no guarantee they will reduce wrinkles. This story is available exclusively to Business Insider subscribers.

People with microplastics in their plaque were more likely to have a heart attack or stroke. This is the first time microplastics have been linked to health problems in humans. AdvertisementPeople who had microplastics in their blood vessels in a study were more likely to have a heart attack, stroke, or die earlier than those who didn't. Younger men were more likely to have microplastics in their plaqueIt's important to note that the findings don't prove that microplastics cause heart attacks and strokes but rather suggest a link between the two. This might suggest that microplastics in the bloodstream exacerbate inflammation, which increases the risk of heart attacks and stroke, study author Francesco Prattichizzo told New Scientist.

Former U.S. president Donald Trump pictured during a meeting with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg at Winfield House, London on Dec. 3, 2019. She added that the NATO alliance "allows us to prevent war." The defense spending target is not a requirement and many countries have sought to ramp up their military spending since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. NATO's so-called Article 5 mutual defense clause means that an attack against one NATO member is considered an attack against all allies. "NATO cannot be an 'a la carte' military alliance ... depending on the humor of the president of the U.S.," Borrell said when asked to respond to Trump's comments, Reuters reported.

London CNN —Allowing children to play impact sports, such as rugby or boxing, amounts to a form of child abuse, researchers from three British universities said in a new study. “The child’s brain doesn’t know or care how it was traumatized,” study lead author Eric Anderson, Professor of Sport at the University of Winchester, told CNN. And so we need to stop parents from hitting children in the head as punishment. The study argues that children cannot consent to taking part in highly dangerous activities such as impact sports, nor can adults give informed consent on their behalf. “If we were to invent sports from the get-go today, we wouldn’t be inventing sports that had children hitting their brains,” Anderson said.

At the center of that growth are newer genres of Afrobeats — the renowned blend of distinct West African music styles — and amapiano, which fuses South African kwaito with African jazz, house music and soulful vocals. The 2022 track became the first led by an African artist to hit 1 billion Spotify streams and has the record for the most weeks — 64 — spent on Billboard’s Pop Airplay chart. And some tracks meld the genres under the African music umbrella. That reach is particularly interesting considering that African music is produced for its people, embodying all aspects of their lives from their culture and experiences to their struggles, LeriQ says. The continent leads mobile device web traffic in the world, according to the U.S. International Trade Administration, translating to more market opportunities for artists.

Learn moreKnowledge is power, the saying goes, so you may be tempted to use wearables to track your health data in the hopes of preventing or managing an illness or hitting certain fitness goals. Plus, it's important to take the data, which might not be entirely accurate, with a pinch of salt, Probert said. That doesn't mean the best fitness trackers aren't helpful, it just means you shouldn't take their data as gospel. Fitness trackers can't know our metabolic rates and how much muscle we have compared to body fat, which affects our energy expenditure. And, Probert cautioned, it's important not to stop listening to your body and checking in with how you feel when using such devices.
