Starbucks is reversing a push into frequent promos on drinks and snacks, The Wall Street Journal said. It's part of CEO Brian Niccol's effort to reestablish the brand's upscale, premium vibe, it added. Narasimhan said on an earnings call earlier this year that 60% of the company's sales were from the nearly 34 million Starbucks Rewards members. Multiple baristas previously told BI that the size and frequency of rewards deals were getting out of hand. In curbing its discounts, Starbucks is bucking a wider retail trend that has seen companies such as McDonald's, PepsiCo, and Walmart cut prices.

Starbucks Why we own it : Starbucks has one of the most recognizable brands of any restaurant. Like Starbucks, McDonald's has had a challenging 2024 and the company reported uninspiring results — missing on revenues, same-store sales, and earnings per share. Quarterly commentary Comparable store sales in North America — a key restaurant industry metric — fell 2%, slightly beating estimates of a 2.2% drop forecasted by Wall Street analysts, according to FactSet. In Starbucks' international segment, comparable store sales fell 7%, missing estimates of a 5.1% decline. A Starbucks store stands in Manhattan on January 30, 2024 in New York City.

Read previewI worked as a Starbucks barista for nearly a year, and I became extremely familiar with just how expensive the popular coffee chain is. As a stingy spender, I made several mental notes on ways customers would unnecessarily waste their money during my shifts. If I find irresistible merchandise, I'll take advantage of the Starbucks rewards program. If you're looking for a caffeine fix, stop wasting your money on hot venti lattesGrande and venti lattes have the same amount of espresso. New York CNN —Starbucks customers who use a Bank of America card will now get additional cash back for their purchases as part of a new partnership between the two companies. The expanded rewards are in addition to the existing cash back and stars that both companies already offer to customers. Expanding Starbucks Rewards gives the chain access to customers’ data and ordering habits, which in turn helps the company target members with deals, a stated goal for the company. In 2022, Starbucks partnered with Delta Air Lines to give bonus SkyMiles to registered customers. Starbucks members typically spend more money on each purchase compared to non-members.

The chart below is meant to provide a high level view of the revenue exposure each of the 35 companies in our portfolio has to the world's second-largest economy. First, a couple caveats: Our energy exploration and production stocks Coterra Energy (CTRA) and Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD) screen as having zero revenue exposure outside of the United States. Nvidia (NVDA) is another stock where the direct revenue exposure can be misleading. That makes the 60% revenue exposure to the Asia-Pacific region more concerning, even as mainland China realized organic sales growth during the quarter. As a result, total sales, services sales and wearables, home and accessories sales all set June quarter records in Greater China.

The leaked code, which awarded 200 stars, was meant for attendees of an in-person event, Starbucks said. Some Starbucks app users are posting complaints online after discovering that their Starbucks Rewards "stars" have slipped into negative territory. But last week, Starbucks docked stars from certain customers who it said used a leaked promo code for free drinks, the company told Insider. The QR code for 200 bonus stars was shared at an in-person event and intended only for attendees. Starbucks' Rewards program is popular, boasting more than 30 million members, and it has hit some snags in the past.

REUTERS/Carlo AllegriFeb 2(Reuters) - Starbucks Corp (SBUX.O) missed Wall Street expectations for quarterly comparable sales on Thursday, as persistent weakness in the coffee chain's China business offset strong sales in the North American market. That resulted in a 29% fall in China comparable sales for Starbucks in its first fiscal quarter ended Jan. 1, pulling total international comparable sales down 13%. Global comparable sales at Starbucks rose 5%, compared with analysts' average estimate of a 6.75% rise, according to Refinitiv IBES data. Starbucks reiterated its previous guidance of global comparable sales growth of 7% to 9% for its fiscal 2023.
The Italian espresso culture inspired Howard Schultz 40 years ago as he built the Starbucks empire. In his final earnings call, Schultz hinted at a game-changing new "platform" coming to Starbucks later this month. Schultz said will travel to Milan later this month "to introduce something much bigger than any new promotion or beverage." "Eight of the ten highest sales days in our history [were] recorded in the quarter," Schultz said. On February 13, Starbucks plans to change its Starbucks Rewards program.
Starbucks is making changes to its Starbucks Rewards program on February 13. With customers highly likely to customize these drinks with add-ons, that will generate "higher tickets and higher margins" for Starbucks, BofA said. The new rewards program might give Starbucks a lift if the economy tanks in the coming months. "In a macro slowdown, we believe the power of Starbucks Rewards will insulate the company, a key distinction from prior downturns," BofA said. Starbucks Rewards members accounted for 55% of sales at US company-operated stores, Starbucks said in a fourth-quarter earnings call.
Starbucks, which also uses Uber Eats, said loyalty members cannot earn rewards through delivery. While some restaurant chains offer a limited menu on third-party delivery apps, Starbucks plans to offer about 95% of its core menu on DoorDash. StarbucksUber Eats, on the other hand, told Insider that the Starbucks menu on its app "is optimized for delivery to maintain quality. Delivery is not available through the Starbucks app, and "delivery orders placed through DoorDash or UberEats apps are not eligible for Starbucks Rewards, including both earning and redeeming of Stars," Starbucks told Insider. Customers who enroll in the chain's Starbucks Rewards program earn points — or "stars" — when purchasing food or drinks, which can then be redeemed for free menu items, like coffee. Insider spoke to four Starbucks customers who said they'll visit the chain less often thanks to the change. Though she's been a loyal customer since 2015, Graf-Juarez plans to stop visiting Starbucks, she told Insider. Amy Babby, another former Starbucks devotee, told Insider that she plans to discontinue the habit completely. Chipotle increased the number of points rewards members needed for a free burrito by 16%, and Dunkin' revamped its entire rewards system, more than doubling the amount of spending required for drinks like a free latte.
New York CNN —Starbucks is making changes to its rewards program, requiring members to spend more to earn some popular freebies. Program members earn stars when they make purchases. In the three months ending on October 2, the number of active Starbucks rewards members jumped to 28.7 million, up 16% year-over-year. In October, the coffee chain started partnering with Delta (DAL) to let rewards members earn airline miles. While rewards members may be enthusiastic about benefits, they’re also quick to criticize companies for making changes.
Starbucks is making changes to its beloved Starbucks Rewards program. Customers who enroll in the chain's Starbucks Rewards program earn points — or "stars" — when purchasing food or drinks, which can then be redeemed for free menu items, like coffee. Rewards members were responsible for over half of Starbucks' sales last quarter. Starbucks Rewards members tend to have strong feelings about the program and any potential changes. The rewards program has gained over 10 million members since then, so even more people could be affected this time around.
You can get a free reusable holiday cup at Starbucks on November 17. The red cups come with any size holiday drink order while supplies last. You're eligible to receive the cup any way you order, including mobile orders and delivery, but only while supplies last. If you order multiple drinks, you can get multiple red cups, Starbucks said. This is the fifth year Starbucks has offered the reusable cup promotion, and this year's version is 16 oz and made of 50% recycled materials.
Estimates were for 4% global growth and 8% in the U.S. China sales dropped 16%. The Q4 operating profit margin contracted to 12.2% from 19.7% in the year ago period due largely to China store closures. Guidance No surprises here, as we mentioned earlier, with management reaffirming the full-year fiscal 2023 guidance provided at the company's Investor Day in September. Delta Air Lines and Starbucks are linking their loyalty programs, marking the latest move by the companies to expand the appeal of their rewards programs and boost sales. Starting Wednesday, members of Delta's SkyMiles loyalty program can earn one mile for each $1 spent at Starbucks after connecting the accounts. According to Starbucks' website, with 150 stars, loyalty program members can get a coffee drink, such as a cappuccino. Customers can earn both SkyMiles and Starbucks stars with each purchase, a Starbucks spokeswoman said. At its recent investor day, Starbucks said it planned to link its rewards program to other loyalty programs.

New York CNN Business —Starbucks customers can now earn more than just “stars” for their purchases. Customers must first link their Starbucks Rewards and Delta SkyMiles accounts on a special website in order to start receiving miles on purchases made at US Starbucks locations. As another perk, on days that members are scheduled to fly Delta, they will earn double stars, or rewards points, on their Starbucks orders. Starbucks (SBUX) has more than 27 million US members and Delta (DAL) has around 100 million global members (the airline doesn’t break out numbers for the US). Expanding Starbucks Rewards is a goal for the company because it gives the chain access to customers’ data and ordering habits, which in turn helps the company target members with deals.
Locations in airports and grocery stores will get Starbucks rewards and mobile ordering. Starbucks rewards members make up about half of all transactions. As a commitment to creating the same experience at all stores, Starbucks will extend a program called Starbucks Connect across licensed stores that will bring those benefits. Starbucks has 7,000 licensed stores in North America, making up about a third of total stores as of August 2022. One in 10 US adults is a Starbucks rewards member, Starbucks said.
