☆ SEC fines six major credit rating agencies over failure to keep electronic records

New York CNN —The US Securities and Exchange Commission fined six major credit rating organizations a total of $49 million for their “significant failures” to keep electronic communications. Moody’s Investor Services and S&P Global Ratings agreed to pay the heftiest fines, a $20 million civil penalty each. Fitch Ratings agreed to pay $8 million, A.M. Best Rating Services agreed to pay $1 million, HR Ratings de México, S.A. de C.V. $250,000, and Demotech agreed to pay $100,000, respectively. That included an associate managing director making off-channel comments about credit rating clients. “Moody’s is fully committed to upholding our regulatory record-keeping obligations, and we are pleased to put this matter behind us,” a Moody’s spokesperson said in a statement.

CNN —The USA achieved a historic milestone after advancing to the next stage of the men’s T20 Cricket World Cup after its game against Ireland on Friday was abandoned due to a wet outfield, according to the International Cricket Council. It was a momentous point for USA, which saw its qualification for the Super 8 stage of the tournament confirmed, a remarkable achievement given the team is appearing in its first ever T20 World Cup. One of the co-hosts for the T20 World Cup, the USA opened up its campaign with a convincing victory over Canada and finishes its Group A stage on five points. The four teams in those two groups will play one another in a round-robin format, with the top two advancing to the semifinal stage. The Super 8 stage begins on June 19, with all 12 games in the second round of the T20 World Cup being played across four Caribbean islands in Antigua, Barbados, St. Lucia and St. Vincent.

See here: Wells Fargo this week disclosed that it had fired more than a dozen employees for “simulation of keyboard activity,” Bloomberg reported, citing filings to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. In other words, they were faking work, perhaps with the kind of mouse jiggler that you can buy online for $20. At any rate, some bankers over at Wells Fargo seem to have gotten caught last month. “And that’s a symptom of a much larger problem.”In Wells Fargo’s case, managerial mistrust would be understandable, given the bank’s history. Since then, Wells has been trying to reform its own internal culture while trying to repair its brand.

CNN —Constance Glantz had been in a nursing home – in hospice care. No evidence of criminal intent had been found, Chief Deputy Ben Houchin told reporters. She again was pronounced dead, Houchin said later, adding an autopsy was conducted Tuesday morning. Constance’s family was told all about what happened, Houchin said, and the sheriff’s office started an investigation, including visiting the nursing home. The funeral home and the nursing home have been “totally cooperative” with the sheriff’s office investigation, Houchin said.

CNN —Months before Donald Trump was indicted for mishandling classified documents, a federal judge said that investigators had “strong evidence” that the former president “intended” to hide classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago resort, according to newly released court documents. Judge Beryl Howell cited, among other things, the discovery of additional classified documents found at Mar-a-Lago months after the FBI’s search of the property in the summer of 2022. The ruling was among hundreds of pages of previously sealed filings that were publicly docketed Tuesday in the criminal classified documents case against Trump. Nauta has been charged alongside Trump and Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos De Oliveira in the case, facing charges of mishandling sensitive or classified materials and obstruction. The case against Trump, brought last summer, is currently in front of Judge Aileen Cannon in Fort Pierce, Florida.
