Members of the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and the Israeli military put in place the Trident Pier, a temporary pier to deliver humanitarian aid, on the Gaza coast on May 16. The content of the ships is inspected in Cyprus, then the aid is moved on the pier by trucks already on the ships to a facility on shore. This is where the UN would oversee the process of loading the aid on local trucks and send the aid to north and south Gaza, the official explained. Since the content was already searched in Cyprus, the UN doesn’t expect much delay at Israeli checkpoints except to inspect drivers’ paperwork. The aid will go to the northern part of the strip on one day and to the south on the next.

Most of Gaza’s water comes from local sources – but the fuel required to pump and clean it is fast running out. As the water system collapses, some Gazans have been forced to drink dirty, salty water, sparking concerns of a health crisis and fears that people could start dying from dehydration. Without it, Gaza’s water system has crumbled. Gaza’s fuel supplies could be exhausted in as little as 48 to 72 hours, Ghunaim, from the PWA, said on Monday. President Biden said Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi has agreed to open the gates to the Rafah border crossing, where trucks carrying aid to the Gaza Strip have been waiting. Biden said up to 20 trucks of humanitarian assistance to Gaza will be allowed to go through. That is about one eighth of what aid workers estimate is required to meet the needs of 1.7 million people now gathered in south Gaza. Egyptian officials acknowledged they had reached an agreement but said there was no mechanism yet to move aid over the border and noted that the Rafah crossing had been destroyed in an Israeli airstrike and needed to be repaired. Biden acknowledged the roads would first need to be repaired and that assistance might not begin moving into Gaza until later in the week.
