Freshly painted white and fitted with new mahogany shutters, this new old house is nearly finished. And then came the stunning phone call, freezing Mr. Goetz and Mr. Malin in the back of that cab. Would it “look like a fake old house?” Mr. Malin asked. “Do I care whether a two-by-four is hundreds of years old, or 90 days old?” Mr. Goetz asked. Construction can’t be finished fast enough for Mr. Goetz and Mr. Malin.

REUTERS/Phil NobleLIVERPOOL, England, May 11 (Reuters) - Liverpool has opened its heart to Ukraine for Eurovision 2023, flying blue and yellow flags, offering special tickets to its refugees and adopting its cuisine, in addition to putting the country centre stage in three live shows. But organisers have worked hard to showcase Ukraine to thousands of fans in the "City of Pop" and millions more watching around the world. "Eurovision is such a joy to have in Liverpool and we're very conscious that we only have it because of the terrible things that are happening in Ukraine," he said. "So as a chef, I wanted to give a nod to the two food cultures coming together."
With Jeremy Hunt taking up the role on Friday, Britain has had four finance ministers in just four months. Prior to the 2016 Brexit vote, Britain had four finance ministers in 23 years, underlining a sense of stability that is now gone. The response was brutal: the pound slumped, government borrowing costs surged, lenders pulled mortgage deals and the Bank of England had to intervene to stop some pension funds from going under. While Truss had touted low corporation tax as a way to attract business investment, the executives said they wanted stability. British business investment, which flatlined after the 2016 Brexit vote and then fell sharply during the pandemic, was 6% lower in the second quarter of this year than its level of six years ago, in stark contrast to international peers.
