REUTERS/Henry NichollsBritish Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to delay lifting the remaining coronavirus restrictions in England as data shows a further rise in cases of the rapidly spreading Delta variant, British media reported. Johnson is due to announce on Monday whether the planned lifting of restrictions, which would see an end to limits on social contact, can go ahead on June 21. A four-week delay would push back the easing of restrictions to July 19. More than three-quarters of adults have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

Eighty years later, those "Scallywag Bunkers," as they're known, remain scattered across the British countryside, a reminder of a much more perilous time. And their mission, in the event of a Nazi invasion of the UK, was to operate behind enemy lines — and kill, harry and sabotage. Inside a recently discovered underground bunker belonging to British World War II Auxiliary Units, known as "Scallywags." The plan was for the UK's armed forces to protect London and Britain's industrial heartlands behind the so-called General Headquarters (GHQ) Line. But their legacy lives on, hidden within the spartan underground bunkers they would have conducted their lethal work from.

LONDON (Reuters) - The one-month lockdown for England announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson this weekend could be extended as Britain struggles to contain a second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, a senior cabinet member said on Sunday. The new lockdown announcement came 10 days after Johnson told parliament it would “make no sense at all” to “turn the lights out with a full national lockdown”. The other constituents of the United Kingdom - Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland - have their own policies and enacted tougher COVID-19 health restrictions last month. EXTRA FINANCIAL SUPPORTGovernment scientific adviser Jeremy Farrar said on Sunday the lockdown would need to be extended beyond early December in absence of evidence of a shrinking pandemic. The survey showed the Bank of England is likely to announce a 100 billion-pound expansion of its bond buying stimulus on Thursday.
