SHANGHAI, CHINA - MARCH 7, 2023 - The Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai Tower, Jinmao Tower and World Financial Center are seen on Lujiazui Street, Shanghai, China, March 7, 2023. China stocks will keep rising after markets in the mainland reopen following the Golden Week break, analysts predicted. Beijing's announcements of economic support last week have fueled China's CSI 300 blue-chip index to rally over 25% in a nine-day winning streak. Then, Hong Kong stocks dropped on Thursday, ending a 6-day winning streak and sparking fears that China's stimulus rally could have started to fizzle out. Beijing's recent stimulus blitz coupled with higher participation from retail investors will likely fuel a longer rally, he said.

Aerial view of new energy vehicles at Huaian BYD Industrial Co., Ltd. on August 26, 2024 in Huaian, Jiangsu Province of China. China on Wednesday announced that it has filed an appeal with the World Trade Organization, asking the organization to rule on the recent tariffs that Canada imposed on Chinese electric vehicles and metal products. The ministry said it filed a lawsuit against what it called Canada's "unilateralism and trade protectionist practices" with the WTO, adding that it also launched an anti-discrimination investigation into Ottawa's restrictive measures. These measures will "disrupt and distort the global industrial chain and supply chain," the ministry added. Canada's Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment.

To make the European market unattractive for Chinese EV exporters, tariffs have to be as high as 50%, according to research group Rhodium. watch nowHe pointed out that the EU's tariffs were not as severe as those announced by North America because European and Chinese original equipment manufacturers are heavily interconnected. "It is a delicate balance to promote domestic European production without severely impacting their Chinese operations," McCabe said. Chinese EV makers are coming up with newer, cheaper offerings even as the EU strives to curtail imports via tariffs. At a conference in May this year, Chinese behemoth BYD announced its Dolphin model to the European market at less than $21,550.

Bloomberg | Bloomberg | Getty ImagesSINGAPORE — Cryptocurrency insiders downplayed the potential impact of the U.S. presidential election in November on the market here in the Lion City, even though some also said that former President Donald Trump is seen as more crypto-friendly. Anthony Scaramucci, founder and managing partner of SkyBridge Capital, a global alternative investment firm, predicted that if Harris were to win the election, her handling of crypto regulation would largely be the same as Trump. The Trump family recently launched a new crypto project called World Liberty Financial. Goals set by those involved in the project suggest that it will resemble a crypto banking platform.

"So to some extent, the Chinese government has managed to insulate this big adjustment in the housing market from the financial sector and prevent a bigger crisis. So instead, they're going through this sort of slow, painful, grinding adjustment," Wrigley added. Urban jobless rate rose to a six-month high, while year-on-year home prices fell at their fastest pace in nine years. Prasad criticized the Chinese government for being too slow to enforce bolder measures to stimulate the economy. It also requires early action, and we haven't seen either of those from the Chinese government," he said.

Jade Gao | Afp | Getty ImagesBEIJING — China is not planning additional stimulus for the second half of the year, according to officials from the economic planning agency and finance ministry. Those official figures have raised concerns about whether China can achieve its full-year target of around 5% growth. China will put "promoting consumption in a more prominent role," Yuan Da, deputy secretary-general of the National Development and Reform Commission, told reporters Thursday in Mandarin, translated by CNBC. He reiterated that authorities would work for the "healthy" development of real estate and ensuring the delivery of pre-sold apartments. For example, Lu'an City in Anhui province announced Thursday it was issuing 1.5 million yuan in coupons for discounts on eating out at restaurants, 3 million yuan for buying home goods and 3 million yuan for car purchases.

Costfoto | Nurphoto | Getty ImagesBEIJING — New tariffs on Chinese electric cars aren't enough to help foreign automakers stay competitive, especially in the lucrative China market, according to consulting firm AlixPartners. While collaborations are "rational" to attain market share, Dyer said it is difficult to stay in the China market long-term if foreign carmakers don't switch things up. Last month, an analyst from the Bank of America said U.S. automakers based in Detroit should exit China "as soon as they possibly can" because they were at the losing end against China EV giants. That's slightly more than Nio 's 87,426 deliveries for the first six months of 2024, although Nio continued to recover from sluggish performance earlier in the year with a record 21,209 deliveries in June. BEIJING — Chinese electric car company Zeekr said Monday it delivered a record number of vehicles in June, making its deliveries for the first half of the year the largest among U.S.-listed Chinese companies only selling pure electric cars. Plug-in hybrid cars accounted for a slightly greater share than battery electric vehicles, and saw faster growth at 39.5% versus 17.7% for battery-only cars. Car companies need to improve the battery charging process, Wan Gang, the man credited with spearheading China's electric car strategy, said at a conference last week. As part of efforts to boost consumption, China this year has launched a trade-in policy to incentivize new energy vehicle sales.
