When COVID forced kids into remote school, the city of Las Vegas learned many couldn't get online. A grant helped officials build a private 5G network that connected hundreds of students for free. "So we successfully hooked up several hundred students onto our private 5G network, which gave them connectivity from their homes through the city's network to their schools." This would be supplemented by commercial carriers such as Verizon and AT&T in areas where the private network wouldn't reach. Looking ahead, Ahmed sees many use cases for a private 5G network and expects them to grow in popularity as cities harness the power of artificial intelligence to create safer environments.

ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — If you listen to the African leaders addressing the U.N. General Assembly this year, the message is emphatic and unanimous: The continent is done being a victim of a post-World War II order. It is a global power in itself and must be partnered with — not sidelined. There’s also a new boldness that comes with the African Union’s G20 seat. With the largest bloc of countries at the United Nations, it is understandable that African leaders increasingly demand a bigger voice in multilateral institutions, said Murithi Mutiga, program director for Africa at the Crisis Group. As African leaders spoke glowingly about the continent as a force on the global stage, some at home said the leaders must begin by delivering the dividends of democracy to their people.

In this light, artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technology have become increasingly prevalent, propelling efforts to improve patient care, solutions, and overall healthcare outcomes. These groups have clinical, operational, and technology experts working together to identify actual healthcare delivery and operational problems that can be addressed using AI, emerging technologies, and digital health tools. The hospital established specialized and certified applied healthcare AI programs tailored to healthcare staff for promoting AI and emerging technology capabilities and their applications in healthcare. As a result, multiple value-driven AI and emerging technology systems built in-house have been deployed in various clinical and operational units. Constant progress: Healthcare providers need to set clear boundaries for adopting AI and emerging technology as tools for supporting evidence-based medicine.
Salesforce has a new marketplace for carbon credits, also known as carbon offsets. Companies can use their carbon credits on projects designed to help alleviate the climate crisis. Carbon credits as product stock-keeping units require a set of unique attributes that weren't available in the out-of-the-box product. Buyers on Net Zero Marketplace must commit to buy carbon credits as part of a comprehensive climate-action strategy — not as a substitute for absolute reductions. Providers of carbon credits don't always have the traditional sales and marketing tool kits needed to successfully bring credits to the market.
The climate crisis is fueling extreme weather events including record droughts, and with stress growing on global water systems HSBC said investors should own stocks with exposure to water infrastructure. In a recent note to clients, the firm said water systems are a "huge investment" theme over the coming years, identifying key players in various sub-sectors of the over-arching theme. "We think companies that offer water management solutions across various industries could gain from rising awareness about addressing the global water scarcity issues," HSBC added. HSBC also pointed to water treatment company Ecolab and water solutions company Xylem as beneficiaries of increasing investments in water infrastructure. Smart solutions, like those that Xylem provide, are a growing area of focus as municipalities look to upgrade their water systems.
