From family "bubbles" to no fireworks, the U.K., France, Italy and now Germany have released further details of what will, and will not, be allowed this Christmas and New Year. Red Christmas lights decorate the trees to illuminate the Champs-Elysees avenue with the Arc de Triomphe in the background for Christmas celebrations on November 22, 2020 in Paris, France. "If the contagion trend continues (downward), there won't be any more red zones in December," Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said Tuesday, according to ANSA news agency. If red zones are lifted in time for Christmas, Italians will be able to visit family elsewhere in Italy. For now, however, Calabria, Lombardy, Piedmont and Valle d'Aosta are red zones with residents unable to leave until Dec. 3.

This year’s holiday shopping season is expected to bring in record sales — forcing many retail workers to the front lines of the pandemic, often without hazard pay, despite another surge of coronavirus infections. “Retail workers experience heightened stress and pressure during the holiday season, even in normal times. While this might come as good news for brick-and-mortar stores that have been crushed by the pandemic, retail workers are nervous about the potential onslaught of eager shoppers — many of whom don’t always follow social distancing and mask rules. But among those companies, workers received an average increase in pay of just $1.11 per hour since the pandemic began. “They’re not worried about safety.”Many retail workers say they have no choice but to risk getting sick.

The e-commerce giant is encouraging shoppers to collect their orders from its bricks-and-mortar stores or neighborhood Amazon "hubs." Amazon has rolled out new delivery and collection options so that shoppers can keep their holiday orders "spoiler-free" — and is encouraging customers to collect their packages rather than relying on delivery to their homes. These stores aren't very widespread across the US, so Amazon is also encouraging customers to collect orders from its "Hubs." This reduces the number number of deliveries while making it easier to keep holiday orders secret, Amazon said. Walmart is adding 42 pop-up e-commerce distribution centers, which will ship up to 30% of its holiday orders, alongside hiring 20,000 e-commerce warehouse workers.

Black Friday is almost here. The trends are especially worrisome heading into the holidays, when families tend to gather and partake in activities together like going to the mall on Black Friday. For the first time in the history of Deloitte's pre-Thanksgiving survey, more consumers (61%) are planning to shop online on Black Friday than in stores (54%). But they might not need to even worry about crowded stores, if shoppers' nerves remain high. And 74% plan to shop online, not in stores, during the week of Thanksgiving to avoid crowds, up from the 62% of people who said the same thing a year earlier.

The company said in a statement Monday that Amazon shoppers nationwide can now get their gifts delivered to one of its physical bookstores, called Amazon Books, or an Amazon 4-star location. Amazon also highlighted its network of contactless pickup points, referred to as Amazon Hub, as an "alternative delivery location" for holiday orders. (Reuters) - Wisconsin’s governor on Friday extended a statewide mask mandate despite a legal challenge from conservatives, renewing an emergency health order requiring face coverings in public spaces to curb an alarming surge in COVID-19 infections. Many Republican politicians, led by President Donald Trump, have belittled or criticized face coverings as an infringement of personal freedom. Public health experts say greater social mixing and indoor gatherings as the weather turns colder ahead of the holiday season is fueling a worsening contagion, putting already strained healthcare systems further under siege. His new health order requires everyone to wear masks in enclosed spaces except at home when no one from outside the household is present. Earlier in the day, Dr. Deborah Birx, a member of the White House coronavirus task force, appealed to Americans to avoid unnecessary travel and limit social gatherings during next week’s Thanksgiving holiday.
