CNN —Raw sewage, swarms of flies and mosquitoes, garbage piled high in the streets. As the heat of summer gathers, hundreds of thousands of people in Gaza are contending with a crisis in sanitation. Ismail Zayda, who lives in Gaza City in the north, told CNN that water supplies had been cut off for nine months. Roads ‘full of sewage’Zayda, the Gaza City resident, told how an out-of-service swimming pool in his had become a magnet for insects. The treatment of sewage amid damage to infrastructure and a lack of fuel has become an enduring problem in Gaza.

Tel Aviv CNN —The Israeli military has desecrated at least 16 cemeteries in its ground offensive in Gaza, a CNN investigation has found, leaving gravestones ruined, soil upturned, and, in some cases, bodies unearthed. CNN’s analysis of satellite imagery and videos showed that Israeli bulldozers turned multiple cemeteries into staging grounds, leveling large swaths and erecting berms to fortify their positions. In the Shajaiya neighborhood of Gaza City, Israeli military vehicles could be seen where the cemetery once stood, with berms surrounding them on all sides. ‘I couldn’t find her grave’Munther al Hayek’s daughter Dina was killed in the 2014 Gaza war. “The occupation forces destroyed and bulldozed them,” Hayek, a spokesman for the Palestinian opposition group Fatah in Gaza, told CNN.

His childhood home in Gaza City was obliterated in a separate strike on an adjacent building the same day. Mustafa al-Kahlout, who heads the Al Nasr hospital and Al Rantisi Pediatric hospital in northern Gaza, told CNN that they were surrounded and asked for the Red Cross to assist with an evacuation. “We do not know our fate.”His call comes after strikes were reported near at least two other hospitals in northern Gaza. This included “two ambulances that were completely damaged,” the hospital statement said. It was not immediately clear if PRCS was referring to the same ambulances mentioned in the hospital’s statement. Men and boys stood near one of the few supplies in Khan Younis loading huge tanks onto three-wheeled rickshaws, carts they dragged by hand and a small wagon pulled by a horse. In Khan Younis, an ambulance stood at the end of an alleyway with its siren blaring, a man sat inside cradling his young daughter, their eyes staring wide from faces covered in dust.
