CNN —Nigerian chess champion and child education advocate Tunde Onakoya has broken the record for the longest chess marathon after playing for an extraordinary 60 hours nonstop under the bright lights of New York City’s Times Square. The Guinness World Record organization has not yet confirmed Onakoya’s attempt, which can sometimes take weeks, but for many Nigerians, the 29-year-old is already considered something of a national hero. Onakoya played against Shawn Martinez, a US chess champion, in accordance with the Guinness World Record guidelines that any attempt to break the record must be made by two players who play continuously for the duration. Onakoya founded Chess in Slums Africa, which seeks to empower children in underprivileged communities by using chess to enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills, in Lagos. LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada's attorney general is investigating six Republican electors who submitted a document to Congress falsely declaring Donald Trump the winner of the 2020 presidential election, a person with knowledge of the case said Wednesday. But the probe adds to official scrutiny of so-called fake electors in several swing states won by President Joe Biden in 2020, including investigations in Georgia, Michigan and Arizona. (AP) — A Michigan judge is expected to decide Friday morning whether to drop charges against two defendants accused of participating in a fake elector scheme after the state attorney general said the group was “brainwashed” into believing former President Donald Trump won the 2020 election. CNN —Gunfire erupted just before midnight Monday in Fort Worth, Texas, leaving at least three dead and eight others wounded, police said. Ten of the victims are adults and one a minor, according to a news release from the Fort Worth Police Department’s homicide unit. A shooting that erupted just before midnight in Fort Worth, Texas, left at least three dead. The deadly gunfire in Fort Worth is one of at least 345 mass shootings in the nation this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive. Police are also investigating a mass shooting in Philadelphia they believe left five people dead and two children injured Monday evening.

Three people were killed and eight others were injured on Monday night in a shooting in Fort Worth where a crowd had gathered for a Fourth of July celebration, the police said. The shooting took place just before midnight in the Como neighborhood, southwest of downtown Fort Worth, which has an annual celebration on July 3. The Fort Worth Police Department’s homicide unit is investigating, Officer Daniel Segura, a spokesman, said in an email. No one has been arrested, and the police are asking people to call with any tips, he added. Shawn Murray of the Fort Worth Police Department said at a news conference shortly after the shooting.

In Fort Worth, Texas, three people were killed and eight wounded in a mass shooting following a local festival, police said on Tuesday. Police in Fort Worth said no arrests have been made. Police have said they are seeking multiple suspects in the Baltimore shooting. The United States has been struggling with a large number of mass shootings and incidents of gun violence.

K-Pop supergroup BTS — like hundreds of other celebrities — lost its blue checkmark on Twitter. At press time, the band had not paid to restore its blue checkmark under Elon Musk's Twitter Blue. On Thursday, Musk tweeted that he's personally funding some celebrities' Twitter Blue statuses — but did not specifically say whose subscriptions he's paying for. It's unclear who's paying for the Twitter Blue subscriptions on Hybe's and BTS' official accounts. Other K-Pop groups have also refused to give Musk $8 for Twitter Blue.
