AdvertisementAdvertisementMy family uses separate banks for bills, spending money, credit cards, and investing. Having a separate account just for discretionary funds makes it easier to spend money guilt-free. Our 'spend' account is our 'fun money'This is a money tip I've learned from my parents — keep entertainment funds or "fun money" separate, and always allow room in the budget for this if you can. After bills and contributions to our respective investment accounts and our boys' college funds, we funnel the rest into an entirely different joint account — our 'spend' account. While most people probably use a separate financial institution for their investments and other long-term financial goals, like saving for college, it's the fourth financial institution on our dossier, and probably the most important.

CNN —Residents in the Southwest are bracing for heavy rains and potentially catastrophic flooding as Hurricane Hilary is expected to pummel the region as a rare tropical storm beginning Sunday and lasting into next week. Its core is expected to pass close to the peninsula Saturday night and then weaken into a tropical storm as it crosses into the US and Southern California. The threat has triggered California’s first ever tropical storm warning extending from the state’s southern border to just north of Los Angeles. “Preparations for the impacts of flooding from rainfall should be completed as soon as possible, as heavy rain will increase ahead of the center on Saturday,” the hurricane center said. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said the hurricane was weakening on its path to the west-central coast of the peninsula this evening. It predicted it would lose more strength and turn into a tropical storm as it heads towards southern California during the day and evening on Sunday. The storm strengthened to a Category 3 hurricane Thursday evening and is likely to build into a powerful Category 4 on Friday, the advisory said. Southern swaths of California and Nevada could see 3 to 5 inches of rain with isolated amounts of up to 10 inches. MEXICO CITY, Aug 6 (Reuters) - Tropical storm Eugene is strengthening in the Mexican Pacific and could become a hurricane in the next few hours as it moves parallel to the coast of the Baja California peninsula, the United States National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported on Sunday. “It is about a wedding wardrobe for them right now.”That was the case for Ms. Moore, the Dallas bride. Although she found her wedding dress only a few months before the main celebration, she had bought multiple bridal outfits since getting engaged in September 2021. First, there was the engagement party dress, then another dress for the bridal shower, then two more for a separate elopement in Las Vegas. “I went into it knowing I wanted to set aside a part of my budget that wasn’t for my wedding dress, but for other looks,” she said. “I feel like for me, it’s just that time in your life when you’re the center of attention, and wedding dress shopping felt so high-pressure,” she added.

BOGOTA, May 16 (Reuters) - Deforestation in Colombia during 2022 is forecast to have fallen by up to 10% versus the previous year, Environment Minister Susana Muhamad said on Tuesday, citing significant decreases in the country's Amazon. Deforestation in Colombia in 2021 rose 1.5% versus the previous year to 1,741 square kilometers (430,218 acres), representing an area twice the size of New York City. A 10% decrease in deforestation would take the total area of forest destroyed during 2022 in Colombia to below the 1,589 square kilometers registered in 2019, the first full year of the administration of former President Ivan Duque. Between 2001 and 2021, more than 31,000 square kilometers of forest were destroyed in Colombia, of which some 18,600 square kilometers were deforested in the country's Amazon. Colombia's government will publish full deforestation figures for 2022 in June, Muhamad said.

CNN —The US Coast Guard is suspending its search for three missing Americans last heard from on April 4 near Mazatlán, Mexico, according to a Coast Guard news release. The search was suspended “pending further developments” after Mexican Navy and US Coast Guard responders “conducted 281 cumulative search hours covering approximately 200,057 square nautical miles” with no sign of the missing vessel or passengers, the release said. Kerry O’Brien, Frank O’Brien and William Gross are all “experienced sailors,” according to an earlier joint statement from their families. “An exhaustive search was conducted by our international search and rescue partner, Mexico, with the U.S. Coast Guard and Canada providing additional search assets,” said Commander Gregory Higgins, command center chief of Coast Guard District 11. Winds potentially over 30 knots and seas 15 to 20, maybe more, feet at the time of their voyage,” Higgins told CNN’s Fredricka Whitfield on Saturday.
The search for three Americans who were reported missing two weeks ago, after sailing off the coast of Mexico to California, has been called off, the authorities in both countries said. The missing people, a woman and two men identified as Kerry O’Brien, Frank O’Brien and William Gross, were sailing aboard the Ocean Bound, a 44-foot La Fitte sailboat. They were last heard from on April 4, when they were near Mazatlán, Mexico, the Coast Guard said in a news release. The Coast Guard did not specify their ages on Thursday. The three travelers had left Mazatlán on their way to San Diego, and they were scheduled to stop in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on April 6 to resupply with provisions, according to the Coast Guard.
